The Rivers State Police command has declared the Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Lloyd wanted for attempted murder of Hon. Michael Chinda during the clash by lawmakers last week inside the Assembly chambers.
The state PPRO, Angela Agabe in a statement, said that the lawmaker failed to respond to the invitation extended to him by the police, prompting the command to declare him wanted.
The command said that Lloyd was being investigated by a special team from the Inspector General of Police, and the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“The Rivers State Police Command has declared wanted one Hon. Chidi Lloyd, a native of Emohua in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State about 37 years of age. He is the Majority Leader of Rivers State House of Assembly. He was involved in a case of conspiracy, attempted murder, wounding and wilful damage on the 9th of July 2013”, the statement said.
But Lloyd, while reacting to the warrant, said he was not running from the law, but has been in the hospital because he too was injured in the crisis. He spoke through his lawyer, Emenike Ebete – that the police command was supposed to wait for him to get well.
“They invited my client last week, but we told them of his condition in the hospital because he also sustained injuries just like the others, as a result of the physical attack on him. Why will the police go ahead to declare him wanted? After we had told them what the situation is? We are going to challenge this in court, this cannot hold.”
