PRESS STATEMENT

The attention of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Kano state chapter has been drawn to advertorials published in a number of national dailies and titled: “PRESS RELEASE ON THE FALSE CLAIM TO THE THRONE OF EZE NDIGBO KANO BY CHIEF J.C. NNAJI AND HIS INCITING STATEMENTS AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT OF KANO STATE,”  on this note, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Kano chapter state as follows:

……………………………………a Rejoinder.

1.      That we will first raise this pertinent question, that, which I.C.A and its constitution is Mr. Boniface Ibekwe and Chi Nwogu always referring to in their vituperations? Is it the legally constituted I.C.A headed by Comrade Leonard Nwosu or the one formed by Boniface Ibekwe in a meeting in his bedroom with only Chi Nwogu in attendance? When it was discovered that Mr. Boniface Ibekwe had monumentally defrauded the I.C.A and had raped the I.C.A constitution, he was forthwith expelled from the Association by Eze O.T Nnadi and the generality of Igbos in Kano. When he noticed that the chips were down, he immediately proceeded to form a parallel I.C.A unknown and unrecognized. This is a business only between him (Ibekwe) and Mr. Chi Nwogu pure and simple as the only recognize I.C.A is the one headed by Comrade Leonard Nwosu and Chief J.C.Nnaji, the Onyendu (Sarki Igbo) in Kano.

2.                That as far as Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide is concerned, there is a branch of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Kano state with a secretariat at No. 2 New   Road, Sabon Gari, Kano; and we have a President in the person of Hon. Chief Tobias Michael Idika (Atuma Na Eri Ibeya Ndigbo). Mr. Boniface Ibekwe and his protégé are not in position to say whether Ohanaeze Ndigbo Branch is in Kano or not, as only the parent body including the lawful elected president of I.C.A in person of Comrade Leonard Nwosu and the Onyendu himself and the generality of Igbos in Kano are in position to do so.

3.      That Ohana Eze Ndigbo Kano State Chapter, re-assert its support to the statement of Onye Ndu Ndigbo in Kano—that the Igbos in Kano are marginalized and that we do not have a representative in the government of Alhaji Dr. Rabi’u Muhammadu Kwankwaso ; and also in Sabon Gari, where the Igbos constitute the large chunk of economic activities—there is no basic infrastructure in terms of road network, portable water, health-care delivery, descent public schools for our children. On a very serious note, even a blind man will easily notice the state of infrastructural degeneration and dilapidation within Sabon Gari. The situation is such that those who live outside Sabon Gari will hardly condescend to come there for any thing because there are no accessible Roads. Aside this, there are no public schools, no hospitals or even health centre, no water and no electricity. Against this background Mr. Ibekwe and his cohorts has turned to Kwankwanso’s praise singers even when the non indigenes in Sabon Gari are gnashing their teeth in sordid and heart rendering hardship for total lack of governments presence.

4.                That Ohanaeze Ndigbo Kano State Chapter  believe in the revolution of South-East-Council of Traditional Rulers, abolishing the title of EZE NDI IGBO IN THE DIASPORA; and as a responsible organ of the Igbo race, we warn Kano state Government and Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to stop playing hide-and-seek game with Ndigbo—and do what is right. Let the whole world know at this juncture that the steps taken by the South East Council of Traditional Rulers  headed by Eze Cletus Iluomuanya is laudable. The progenity of Mr. Boniface Ibekwe was actually traced to OyofoVillage in Eziagu territory. This village, it was discovered is actually in BenueState territory presently.

The long and short of this is that Mr. Ibewke is not an Igbo man in the first place. He is from BenueState. So, he does not care if Igbos are maltreated or even exterminated in any where in the world.

5.                That also to Engr. Kwankwaso: Ndi-Igbo the world respect our tradition, and that Ohana Eze Ndi Igbo, Kano, is surprise that His Excellency, would wish to desecrate the culture, norms, customs and values of the Igbo race in his own domain!

6.                That Mr. Chi Nwogu and Mr. Boniface Ibekwe are not President-General of ICA and Eze Ndigbo in Kano, respectively.

7.           That the Traditional Ruler (Onyendu Ndigbo) and ICA President-General remain Chief John Chiejina Nnaji (Agu Na Eche Ibe Na Neke) and Comrade Leonard Nwosu (ezinwanne Ka Ibeya), respectively; as endorsed by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, South-East Council of Traditional Rulers and discernable Igbo citizens resident in Kano.

8.      That for the umpteenth time, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Kano chapter, being the apex Igbo socio-cultural group disown Mr. Ibekwe, Mr. Chi Nwogu and their cohorts whose businesses are to continue to desecrate the norms, culture and values of the Igbo race for their selfish aggrandizement.

9.      That we use this opportunity to remind Kano state government under the leadership of Kwankwaso that Mr. Ibekwe and his group are not representatives, leaders and or rulers of the Igbo community in Kano; and in the interest of Ndigbo, we urge Governor Kwankwaso and other government officials to stop recognizing these dubious characters and source for the real leaders of Ndigbo in Kano if they have the need to consult, meet or have any issue to settle with the Igbo Community in Kano; and we state it here clearly that Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Onye Ndu Ndigbo Cabinet and ICA Executive are at all times accessible to the government of Kano state, individuals, groups and other interested parties that are willing to consult Ndigbo in Kano for any reason, whatsoever.

10.    That we refer Kano state government and the Emirate Council to a publication in page 47 of the Sun Newspapers of Friday (June 28) titled “COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE SOUTH EAST COUNCIL OF TRADITIONAL RULERS, DURING THE 22ND EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING, HELD ON THE 6TH JUNE, 2013 AT NONDON HOTELS ENUGU, ” where it was reiterated that the title of Eze Ndigbo in Diaspora has been abolished; and that anybody using such titled should not be recognized by Igbo sons and daughters anywhere in the world; and even at that, there was never a time Mr. Boniface Ibekwe was crowned or installed as a traditional ruler or leader of Ndigbo in Kano.

11.       That as Ohanaeze can recall that, Mr. Ibekwe, sometime on March 14, 2009 at about 9 p.m. gathered his errand boys and declared himself “Eze Ndigbo in Kano”; and this is after his expulsion from the ICA on crimes bothering on fraud, financial embezzlement, and usurpation as life President of ICA. Let us state facts already within the knowledge of an average Igbo man. Thus, the case of fraud committed by Ibekwe against the ICA in Kano is still pending at the EFCC to date.

In addition to the foregoing, there were stipends for Igbo Boko Haram victims. In the case of some victims what was paid by the Government ended up in the private pocket of Mr. Ibekwe. Such a man who can eat such blood money is impersonating as the “leader” of a civilized, cultured and humane tribe such as the Ndigbo. Let the whole world judge now who is dubious.

12.    That there was never a time Ndigbo in Kano elected or installed Mr. Chi Nwogu as President-General of ICA—Mr. Chi Nwogu is a product of Mr. Ibekwe’s antics; and he is being used by the Ibekwe ‘dynasty’ to perpetuate  self-serving projects and defraud Ndigbo and the general public.

13.    That Ohanaeze Ndigbo reiterates its support to the authentic and duly elected ICA executive led by Comrade Leonard Nwosu.

14.    That Ohanaeze recognizes the only and one Traditional Ruler of Ndigbo in Kano in the person of Onye Ndu Ndigbo, Chief John Chiejina Nnaji (Nze) who was duly elected and installed with the full support and presence of a high-power delegation from the South-East Council of Traditional Ruler led by His Royal Highness, Eze (Dr.) Cletus I. Illomuanya (Obi 1 of Obinugwu kingdom).

15.    That on the issue of the plight of the patient medicine dealers in Sabon Gari Market Kano; we now know who is the enemy within. We now know who is instigating the Kano State Government to push these people out of business for no just cause. There are relevant authorities and agencies responsible  for checking fake drugs. These agencies, such as NAFDAC and the Federal Ministry of Health knows the procedure for checking such fake drugs. Ibekwe can not push or instigate the  Kano State Government to push Ndigbos out of business by branding all medicine dealers in Sabon Gari Market fake. The president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Kano State Chapter Hon. Chief Idika is not a drug dealer either in the form of wholesale or retail. He is only sensitive to the cry of his people. He is only saying that the appropriate agencies should be allowed to work rather than  this naked witch hunt.

16.    That we can only add that Mr. Ibekwe and his protégés are in total darkness in terms of lack of relevant information and enlightenment. They can be called bunch of ignoramus as they does not know that the court of Appeal sitting at Owerri has declared His Royal Majesty Eze Cletus .I. Illomuanya as the rightful chairman of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers.

15.           That on this note, we keep on advising, all  security agencies, governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, government officials, eminent Nigerians and responsible citizens to beware of the antics of Mr. Ibekwe, Mr. Chi Nwogu and their cohorts whose stock in trade is to defraud unsuspecting members of the public in the guise of “Igbo Leaders.” Beware they are impostures and nothing more.

Signed:

Hon. Chief Tobias Michael Idika,                      Ichie Uche Megwalu
