Okorocha Hosts Progressive Governors As He Celebrate Imo Freedom Day 2nd Year Anniversary

Imo State Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has said that his rescue mission administration is still poised to give Imo people the best that democracy can offer anywhere, anytime any day.

Governor Okorocha said this while addressing a mammoth crowed of Imo people that came to celebrate the Imo freedom day with him at the Hereo Square New Owerri.

He said that Imo freedom day is a day set apart to commemorate the day Imo people said no to bad government, the day Imo people stood against corruption, victimization and marginalization, a day that one man, one vote was put to practical test and a day that the people took their own destiny in their hands.

Governor Okorocha looking at the mammoth crowed at the Hereo Square, said that he is happy that Imo people are still solidly behind him,. “I taught I was alone, I thought I’ve been abandoned, but today I am happy that Imo people came out enmasse to support me and to demonstrate they are with me” he said.

Okorocha said he is not in politics for primitive accumulation of wealth or for personal interest, rather to create change in the society, so as to better the lot of the poor.” I am here to create a change in the society, and to write my name in gold like Dee Sam Mbakwe.”

Governor Okorocha informed the Imo people that he has decided to join the progressives in a merger to form APC, to fight against politics of intimidation, victimization and harassment of those they considered to be in opposition.

He called on the Imo people to accept APC, because they are better placed in affairs of the nation in APC; stressing that APGA members in Imo are not following any political party nor are they in any coalition with any party, but it is a merger, in which there was no more ACN, no more CPC, no more ANPP and there is no more faction of APGA which he represents. What we have now is a new party which is called APC.

Speaking during the occasion, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola said that he was happy for the warm welcome given to the coalition of progressives.

Governors that cut across, tribal, religions and ethnic background, to form APC, the Governor said that the country is facing enormous challenges that the solution lies in our democracy and the choice we make, and that choice is APC which represents better life and better tomorrow for all Nigerians and to give us a place in the committee of nations.

Speaking also the Governor of Bornu State, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim Shettima said that they were in the state to identify with a performing and progressive Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha, stressing that they have came together in APC as progressives, not to grab power, but to redefine the concept of governance in a modern democracy.

In his brief speech, Senator Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State Said that the progressive Governors are in APC to bring about positive change in the country, pointing out that his visit to Imo State has shown that Owelle Rochas Okorocha is not building and constructing on the pages of newspapers nor on the screen of televisions, but on the ground. “This is what we want, and what we want to give Nigerians in APC, we must succeed for the benefit of all Nigerians and that we will achieve by effective use of our votes”.

In his speech Governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo State said that he was impressed at the massive development strides going on in Imo State which he said has demonstrated the difference between politicians who earmark and those who eye make, stressing that APC Governors are those who emerged out of similar circumstances where the people stood there ground to see a change, “A system can only last as long as the people are ready to tolerate it. He thanked the youths for coming out enmasse to support the Governor saying that the future is all about the youth.

Many other Governors made their own speech pointing out that Nigeria needs a change and that APC offers the alternative for the needed change.
