The Nkwelle-Ogidi community in Ogidi, the Idemili North Local Government Area headquarters of Anambra state has taken the lead in employment and job creation in the country in support of the rural development programme of the Federal government.
This was disclosed to stakeholders, journalists and other citizens yesterday in Ogidi during an assessment tour of their newly built ultra-modern market led by their chairman, Chief Maurice Ebo.
According to Chief Ebo, “buyers have already started moving into their allotted stalls ahead of the forthcoming commissioning soon”.
He said that it was gratifying that the community is playing key role in the call for synergy with the Federal, state and local governments in rural development, women/youth empowerment, widowhood support, poverty alleviation and skill acquisition/impartation, as well as providing a round-the-clock security for citizens among many other community development tools, made by President Jonathan.
Chief Ebo who is also the national President of the Fishfarm Estate Developers Association, admitted that their mission was to get every able bodied person in the community gainfully employed, improve quality of lives/revenue, hence directly and indirectly tackle unemployment and anti-social vices.
He disclosed that his executive, buoyed by a massive people’s popular support was committed to tarring and asphalting all roads within the community, electricity transformers, well reticulated boreholes, security gates, street lights.
That so far it has become customary for all widows in the community to collect welfare packages at Easter/Christmas, pop-corn machines, hairdressing/barbing salons, youth to get commuter buses, Keke-NAPEP, while others would be trained in aqua-culture, welding, business centre management and cash.
The Construction of the new ultra modern market overlooking the Bakery Products market along the Enugu-Onitsha Federal Highway has been graduated in phases, with phase one now ready. He urged all allottees to get prepared for full commencement of business activities soon.
He thanked Governor Peter Obi for appointing some of their sons, daughters and wives into positions of importance in government, including the Commissioner for Health, the Permanent Secretary-Government House and the Special Assistant on Media.
