News Release
The management of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps following the newspaper publication in some dailies accusing the Honourable Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, for confiscating a large cache of arms received on behalf of the corps through the office of the National Security Adviser, wish to state that the allegation is false, malicious and fraudulent.
The corps wish to state that organisations and persons should crosscheck their facts and figures accurately before publishing in order to avoid denting the image and credibility of others.
The Honourable Minister in September 2011 handed over the instrument of authority to the corps on behalf of the Federal Government in Owerri, Imo State, during the passing out ceremony of the corps armed squad from prison Arms Squad Training School and similarly in Kaduna State when the Nigerian Army handed over 5,000 pieces of G3 Riffle to the Corps in June, 2012.
There is no record where any of the arms given to the corps was said to be missing or assigned to anybody not to talk of a person confiscating them, therefore the said information is false.
The writer and the general public as well as the civil society group should note that it is wrong in this present security situation to allege a person of such heinous and grievous offence. Issues like this will not only bring suspicion but instigate and cause crisis in the society. For the benefit of peace and for peace to reign let us be conscious of the information we disseminate to the public especially for the image of the nation globally.
NSCDC therefore applaud and commend the Honourable for his giant strides and doggedness in repositioning the ministry and the parastatals thereof as well as his vision in introducing the paramilitary village (Housing Scheme) for all the services and the vehicle scheme in line with Mr President’s transformation agenda.
