The Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, formerly Anambra State University, Igbariam, Prof. Fidelis Okafor has raised concern over the invasion of cattle on the campus.
Okafor expressed the concern in an interview with newsmen at his Igbariam campus office yesterday.
“We want the public to know that the university is being ravaged by the cattle and our fear is that if our students confront these cattle they will disappear but we don’t want that to happen because of the consequences.
“We have had skirmishes with the Hausa/Fulani herdsmen and we have complained to the traditional ruler of this place, the Police, the chief of Staff to the state governor, among others,” Okafor said.
According to him, we have students who need protein and if we decide to make feast out of the cattle they will disappear but that could boomerang.
The vice chancellor said that the continued damaging of the land and crops on the campus was an aggression that needed to be checked.
He appealed to those in authority to take administrative strategic action against the herdsmen before further damage was done.
“It is a serious menace and it had bred so many flies and flees around the place which is not good for us,” the vice chancellor added
