The last may not have been heard about the current abortion law saga in Imo State as rumours making the rounds in the state have it that the state deputy governor, Prince Eze Madumere is the brain behind the contentious law.

Governor Rochas Okorocha had given assent to the Abortion bill passed by the state house of assembly, thereby legalising abortion in the state.

According to the state assembly sources, the deputy governor actually engineered the bill as a prelude to another bill that will indirectly legalise homosexuality in the state.

Prince Madumere had been in the eye of the homosexualism storm since 2011 shortly after he was made the Chief of Staff by Governor Okorocha.

In fact, he was accused of having an affair with the former transition committee chairman of Njaba LGA of the state, Mr. Uche Rajis by no less a person than Rajis’ new wife, Sandra Duru, a development the deputy governor had consistently denied.

Sandra had since left her husband few months after their marriage because according to her, ‘ i caught him(Madumere) having sex with my husband, Uche Rajis, right inside the bathroom of Disney Hotel, Owerri. I walked out of my marriage with Uche because he is a bisexual’.

This shocking revelation was said to have led to the separation of the deputy governor’s first wife from him.

While the stories were flying and with the deputy governor staying without any woman as wife two years after, he was forced to take a new wife last month, July 2013, a ceremony he did secretely without the coverage of the press.

On the contentious pro-abortion law, one of the sources said it was just to test the waters.

Speaking in support of the law legalising abortion in the state, Prince Madumere explained that the law gives passages to termination of pregnancy incurred during rape, sexual harassment and assault.

He added that the law does not give room to indiscriminate termination of pregnancy.

While denying his involvement in homosexualism practice, the deputy governor said the allegation was a ploy to tarnish his reputation and that of the present administration.

He said the plot against him began when his detractors envisaged Governor Okorocha’s ambition in All Progressives Congress, APC, denying ever meeting Sandra Duru.

He however disclosed that during the 2011 governorship election, the said Sandra was given N10million by Okorocha to take care of pro-Okorocha group who came to monitor the election in the state.

The deputy governor said Sandra absconded with the money and refused to honour the meeting called by the governor to address the issue.

He indirectly alleged that the former deputy governor, Jude Agbaso, was the brain behind the current allegation, saying he started receiving funny text messages from Sandra Duru when Jude Agbaso was impeached.

According to him, one of the many text messages read: why would your government impeach Jude Agbaso? I’ll deal with you.

He alleged that some of the newspaper reports against him were being sponsored by politicians  who were bent on scoring cheap political points.
