Declare Total Amnesty For Boko Haram, Sultan Tells Jonathan

0

SultanofSokotoVisitPresidentJonathaninAbuja4The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, yesterday, asked President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately grant amnesty to all members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, as a way of encouraging them to lay down their arms.

Abubakar, who is also the President-General of Ja’matu Nasril Islam, JNI, the umbrella association of all Muslim unions, also denounced the recent violence in Wukari, Taraba State, where several people died, describing it as “madness beyond comprehension” lamenting that Muslims were the major victims.

The Sultan spoke at the opening of the annual central meeting of the JNI in Kaduna where the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Mohammed Aliyu Pate, was invited to enlighten the gathering on the controversy surrounding vaccination against polio.

Those who attended the meeting were mainly Northern Muslims, traditional leaders and clerics.

Sultan Abubakar, who expressed deep concern over the spate of bomb attacks and kidnappings by terrorists in parts of the country, argued that extending amnesty to the sect members would pave the way for dialogue between the sect and the Federal Government.

Making reference to a similar amnesty declared for militants in the Niger Delta, he said:  “The type of amnesty that ended militants’ unrest in the Niger Delta will be suitable for the North. Initiating a restoration and rehabilitation programme that would integrate the terrorists into the larger society will pave the way for dialogue rather than engaging them in an endless war.

Spate of insecurity

“We want to bring to attention of the government our challenges. As Muslim leaders, we feel very concerned and very worried the way things are going on in Nigeria today, especially the insecurity issue in this country. We have problems in the North, we have in the South-East, we have in the South-West and in the South-South. We believe it is the duty of the government to protect all of us.

What happened in Wukari was total madness

“My brothers and sisters, what happened in Wukari a few days ago is total madness beyond comprehension. Because if you follow the news, how can an issue between the youths playing football turn into what happened in Wukari where the major victims have been Muslims?

“You have been living together for centuries why all of a sudden do you say you do not want to live with one another? These are some of the things we shall be discussing. Either there is something somewhere we do not know, or we come to the table together (with the other side) and seek the solution.

“By the grace of God, we believe that the issue of security or rather, insecurity, terrorism and their likes shall be discussed. We hear of terrorism everywhere, everyday. We have heard in the news that the President shall be visiting Maiduguri in a couple of days. And praise be to God, that the Shehu of Borno is here and he will be briefing us this evening.

Amnesty for Boko Haram

“We want to use this opportunity to call on the government, especially Mr President, to see how he can declare total amnesty for all combatants (Boko Haram) without thinking twice. That will make any other person who picks up arms to be termed a criminal.

“If amnesty is declared, it will give so many of those young men who have been running and hiding to embrace that amnesty. Some of them have already come out, because we have read in the papers that some have already come out.

“Even if it is only one person that denounces terrorism, it is the duty of the government to accept that person and see how he can be used to reach out to others. It is left for the government to use that person, evaluate him and see whether he is genuine or fake.

“These are some of the things we are pushing for, yet people will be saying that we are not doing anything as Muslim leaders in the north. No! We are doing much more than what any other person has done. And I want to commend you all. We will continue to do more despite criticisms.”

98% of polio victims have Muslim names — Minister

On polio outbreak and other epidemics in some states of the North, the Sultan said JNI would continue to work with the Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies of government to ensure that children in the region are immunised against such deadly diseases.

Addressing the JNI leaders on polio, Minister of State for Health, Dr. Mohammed Aliyu Pate,  regretted that only three countries in the world, including Nigeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan, still recorded incidences of the wild polio, pointing out that “98 per cent of the children that are victims of this disease have Muslim names.”

He said: “It is unfortunate that there have been a lot of false claims going on about the wild polio virus in Nigeria.

“The opposition to it led to the unfortunate death of nine innocent female health workers in KanoState. That should not happen because immunisation of children is in the best interest of the children and our society.

“By 2007, Niger, India, Pakistan, Nigeria and Afghanistan were the only countries in the world that had polio cases. Today, India and Niger are off that list. Go to our streets today in the north, you will see how polio has crippled our children, turning them to disables and beggars.’’

The Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Mukhtar Yero, who declared the meeting open, enjoined Muslim leaders to preach peace to their followers, promising to ensure that Q’uranic Schools built in the state teach quality Western and Islamic education. The meeting is expected to issue a communiqué today.

APC Adopts Logo, Slogan, And Motto, Says “We Are Close To INEC Registration”

Screen-shot-2013-03-05-at-10.52.04-PM-332x300

Coalition partners in the All Progressives Congress, APC, took a bold step towards registration as a new party early Wednesday in Abuja when nine of the 11 governors in the group finally adopted a logo, a slogan, and a motto for the proposed party.

The adopted logo is the green-white-blue background with a broom on the white background. The logo however has a red base.

The group also adopted “Justice, Peace and Unity” as its motto, and settled for “Change” as its slogan.

“Our choice of the slogan “change” is based on the believe that it will resonate widely and help galvanise citizens currently dissatisfied with the lack of progress in all facets of our nation’s life under [president] Jonathan’s dispensation” said a reliable insider to the various meetings who sought to retain his anonymity. “we are close to registration you can see” he added.

The governors arrived at their choice after meeting with the technical committees set up to fashion out identity symbols for the group at the residence of Mr. Tom Ikimi, chairman of the merger committee, and one-time foreign minister, in the Maitama District of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.

Premium Times had reported Tuesday that the proposed party planned to retain the broom on the white background as its logo, expressing the influence of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), one of the partners to the alliance.

The proposed party however defined its unique identity from the ACN by rendering its colours in vertical rather than horizontal bars, and by replacing the black horizontal base of the ACN with red.

The ACN logo, unlike the APC logo had no red frames, however the broom on the white background, according to insiders at the meeting, was a concession to the view that the broom is generally more acceptable and impactful than ANPP’s maize and CPC’s pen.

The substitution of the word “unity” in the motto is also a shift from the ACN’s motto of Justice, Peace, and Prosperity.

At the Wednesday morning meeting to adopt the identity symbols for the proposed party, Mr. Bola Tinubu, a patriarch of the ACN, who returned to Nigeria early Tuesday after an overseas trip, joined the nine governors in reaching the decision.

Mr. Tinubu habours a perennial presidential ambition and is billed to launch a book he co-authored on economic and financial policy titled Finacialism in Lagos on Thursday, 7th March.

The identity symbols will be presented to a Joint Inter-Party Merger Committee later on Wednesday for ratification, along with the reports of the committees set up to decide on a manifesto and a constitution.

The work of the three committees is part of the group’s preparation to seek registration from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), early last month, announced their plan to merge into a single party to be known as APC.

Early in the life of the Manifesto Committee, which was tasked to draw up the motto, slogan and message, there were initial disagreements over the inclusion of APGA’s symbol following the insistence by a faction of the party that it was not part of the merger deal.

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, led some members of the party to the merger, which a faction loyal to his Anambra State counterpart, Peter Obi, denounced.

The Manifesto Committee has reportedly recommended that the party move towards the left as its philosophical and ideological content.

The committee has recommended free education, public sector investment and internal democracy as part of its manifesto of the proposed party.

An Open Letter To Her Excellency, Dame Patience Jonathan On Ebonyi State House Of Assembly

0

Ebonyi Igwe

Ivo constituency

Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

Your Excellency,

Dame Patience Jonathan

Women for Change Initiatives

Abuja, Nigeria

Dear Dame Patience,

I thank God for your full recovery. Your Thanksgiving and Burnt Offering to God were awesome. I will continue to pray for you and your lovely Husband, our President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for God’s protection and guidance in all your undertakings and services to the Nigeria.

I write you this letter with a heavy heart and with tears in my eyes. I have not stopped crying after reading an article that went viral on the internet on the 18 February, 2013 with the caption IS MALE CHAUVINISM A STANDING ORDER IN EBONYI HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY? written by one Sam Asoluka. My heart is burdened because I am a citizen, student, and an indigene of Ivo Constituency. I am in tears because I am woman, a fiancée to a gentleman who is not from Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

The said article got me thinking especially as my fiancée is not from my state, Ebonyi. I am now worried because it seems marrying outside my state downgrades my Nigerian citizenship or makes me a second class citizen in my husband’s state. I am more worried because as a woman who intends to marry outside my state, I may face the same problem Honourable Mrs Lillian Igwe is facing in my home state’s House of Assembly.

The purpose of this letter is to draw your attention to the plight of Honourable Lady, Lillian Igwe, and PDP Member Representing Ivo Constituency in Ebonyi House of Assembly. And to help put an end to this ‘Marriage–crime’ that has taken a strong root in Ebonyi State House of Assembly from spreading to other states in Nigeria.

Marriage is not a crime. It is an ordained relationship by God and our politicians should not be allowed to ruin or destroy this revered family setting because of selfishness. And as an aspiring politician, I don’t want to be victimised when I marry my heartthrob and move to live with him in his state which automatically becomes my home and state.

Your Excellency, the plight of Honourable Mrs Lillian Igwe is mind boggling. She was suspended from Ebonyi House of Assembly last year on the lame charges of drunkenness and for coming to the House of Assembly in a Keke Napep. But the truth is that Honourable Igwe’s sin is that she is not from Ebonyi State. She is from Okirika in Rivers State and married to an Ebonyi man.  But she won the Ivo Constituency for PDP in a democratically conducted election in 2011.

Since her victory in the election, she has not known peace in the House of Assembly. The male dominated Assembly has done everything in their power to rubbish her because she is an outsider and a woman. These so called honourable members of the Assembly have ceaselessly bullied and emotionally tortured Mrs Igwe because she refused to do their biddings. Hence they came up with the obnoxious claim that she drank herself to stupor and comes to the House in Keke Napep.

Honourable Mrs Igwe does not drink alcohol. And, I wonder when it has become a crime in Nigeria to ride in a tricycle to work. This is just a matter of giving dog a bad name to hang it and how low Ebonyi House of Assembly has degenerated

Your Excellency, I am calling your attention to this Ebonyi House of Assembly imbroglio because you have worked hard in empowering women in Nigeria and what is happening in my State Ebonyi, tantamount to putting spanners to the good work you and other notable Nigerian women have done for most of us who are aspiring to serve our fatherland in various capacities.

As I write you this letter, Honourable Mrs Igwe is still on suspension for no real reason, her Ivo Constituency as a whole which I am a member has no representative in the House of Assembly. We have been cut off from Ebonyi House of Assembly because the men who overpopulate the House hate Mrs Igwe. This is unjust and unacceptable to us. We have protested but they did not give a damn. Is the House of Assembly now victimising us because we the people of Ivo Constituency elected one of wives, a respectable woman to represent us?

Honourable Mrs Igwe is a hardworking woman and a mother of young children. She is an astutely politician and has robustly represented us in the Assembly. She is no more an outsider in Ebonyi State. She is now an indigene of Ivo by marriage and some of us are hoping to be indigenes of other states by marriage soon.

Your Excellency, I urge you to please use your good offices to look into what is currently going on in Ebonyi House of Assembly. Mrs Igwe is unjustly being victimised because she is from Okirika in River state. Your urgent intervention in this matter will stop further emasculation of helpless people of Ivo and their Assembly Member Honourable Mrs Lillian Igwe by these ruthless men in Ebonyi House of Assembly.

Thank you. And happy Mothers Day in advance

Yours sincerely,

Promise Egwu

Stop The Use Of Islamist To Describe Terriorist Group- Concerned Muslim

1

NIGERIA-NORTH/

Some concerned Muslims in Rivers State have frowned at the use of the word “Islamist” to describe militants or rebels who are active in various parts of the world.

One of the concerned Muslims, Tunde Salihu said in Port Harcourt that it is worrisome that press statements and news broadcasts are now extending the term Islamist to almost every Muslim involved in negative issues.

“I am convinced that if you consider my request, it would engender better understanding of Islam and bring about mutual trust among our people, thus avoiding the inevitable genocide that will result from the current media war on Muslims and Islam, worldwide”.

“As you must have noticed, the western media such as VOA, BBC, CNN, DW and so on, generally twist their stories and news features to support the foreign policies of their governments and so you are not likely to hear/see any good information about governments/people of a country or community opposed to their government’s policies, on their channels. As we all have now discovered, they are thoroughly biased and unprofessional when pursuing their government agenda as demonstrated in the sack of many journalist who have attempted to give a different impression/narrative of events. We can see this in the many activities of these countries in the militarization of Africa in recent years,” he said.

Salihu wondered why the press uses the word Islamist to tag terrorists.

“As you must have noticed, Islamist is widely used to describe extremist Muslims and groups.  My worry is that the religion of the perpetuators of crime is always accentuated when there is a conflict in largely Muslim populated communities, but it is played down in non-Muslim areas. Mexico, Congo, Columbia, Rewanda and the gun problem is America are examples of places where the religion of the criminals are blunted out entirely. Even during the Kenya Election crisis 5 years ago, many Christian pastors and Reverend fathers were indicted, but were never labeled “Christianist”.

Over 95% of the of 1.5 Billion Muslims worldwide have condemned the activities of these Terrorist groups, who use and trade in drugs/alcohol  against the well known Islamic tenets as stated in Quran 5:90-91 and they kill people indiscriminately against the Quranic injunctions which states in Q5:31 “…… whosoever kills a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. ……”. They are not Muslims and so should be called what they are; terrorist, rebels, militants, gun men and so on, but not Islamist or Islamic Terrorist. Most of them have been found not to know how to pray, let alone observe the other tenets of Islam and so cannot impose Sharia as some of them attempt to do. It is wicked and unfair to selectively associate Islam with violence, as adherents of other religions also perpetuate numerous acts of violence.

In the same way, the western press continues to call these evil people Jihadist in a wicked twist of the meaning of Jihad as personal struggle with oneself to avoid doing bad things for the sake of God (Allah).

What is however more worrisome is that they (Western press) are now extending the term (Islamist) to almost every Muslim they don’t like. For example, President Morsi who belongs to Freedom and Justice party, of Muslim Brotherhood is also called an “Islamist”. In contrast, Angela Merkel, who belongs to Christian Democratic Union, of Germany, has never been labeled a Christianist, nor has any of the extremist Jewish groups ruling in Israel been labeled, Jewist”, he explained.

Salihu urged media houses to stop the use of Islamist in describing groups who do not represent Islam.

“With the wide spread use of this word ÏSLAMIST”, most people (including otherwise educated ones, who see CNN as Holy Grail) would always associate Islam with violence and develop congenital hatred for Muslims. A little problem that may occur in future may lead people to commit genocide on the Muslims out of this germinated hatred, retaliation, and may be, fear, as it happened in Rewanda; incidentally a broadcaster was convicted later for calling the Tutsis cockroaches that should be crushed or killed.

For the sake of our nation, I strongly urge you to stop the use of “ISLAMIST” to describe these groups of people who do not represent Islam. If however you insist, I want you to recognize the danger of being an accessory to a course that is not in the interest of your larger organization or the Nigerian nation. Businesses thrive in a peaceful atmosphere. The most dangerous social milieu you can impose on a people is distrust and mistrust, which is a time bomb that may consume all of us; as I witnessed over a decade ago, when Hausas were killed in large numbers, in ABA over a period of 7 days”, he said.

Abia State Government recently demolished buildings belonging to the captured notorious kidnapper Mr Ifedike Olisagbo aka Ofeakwu, whose property was also recently demolished in his hometown by the Anambra State Government. Ohanaeze Ndigbo Kano State Chapter: The Enemy Within

Following recent developments in Kano as it concerns Igbo leadership and representation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Kano state chapter is compelled to make a number of clarifications; and this is in our bid to restore the Igbo norms, culture and covetous heritage—which are being decimated by queer characters who are hell-bent in using unmerited status to fill their pockets at the detriment of the integrity and morality of the Igbo race.

For some time now, we have closely watched, with dismay, the antics of one Mr. Boniface Ibekwe who present himself as Ezedioramma IV of Kano, masquerading himself as Eze Ndigbo of Kano. In 2012, we noticed he celebrated the Iri Ji festival twice in his so called palace located on Freetown, Sabon Gari, Kano, in his desperate attempts to raise fund for himself. And in each of these occasions, we noticed that almost half of members of Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso’s cabinet were given one chieftaincy title or the other; and even ordinary traders who have no pedigree were conferred with titles. We have also noticed that in the same 2012, he also held the Ofala Festival which is exclusively made for Traditional Rulers. It is also on record that the same Mr. Ibekwe, parading himself as Igwe Ndi Igbo, collected compensation made for our children killed by terrorists in Kano and tampered with it. Again, in several occasions, he has often presented himself as representative of Ndi Igbo only to use the position as a window to enrich himself and curry unmerited favour. Ohanaeze Ndigbo secretariat in Kano has received several complaints on how Mr. Ibekwe using his self-acclaimed position to oppress and persecute hapless Igbo sons—locking them up in police cells just for the fun of intimidation. Ibekwe is also fund of dragging respected Igbo sons and institution to Court for no just cause, only because they disagree with his taboos. We can recall that in recent years, over three batches of respected Traditional Rulers came from the East and reconciled the Igbos in Kano and directed Ibekwe to lie low and respect himself, but he wouldn’t listen. His Royal Highness, Eze Cletus Illomuanya (Obi 1 of Obinugwu) was in Kano for several occasions in his capacity as Chairman, South-East Council of Traditional Rulers. He led high-profile Traditional Rulers from the East such as Igwe Gibson Nwosu, Eze Uzu 11 of Awka, Eze Hope Onuigbo, Osai 1 of Ibeku, who was then Chairman of Abia State Traditional Council, to mention but a few. These people resolved the matter but to the consternation of every discernable Igbo man, Ibekwe continued his irresponsible acts, selling out the dignity and integrity of the Igbo race

For the umpteenth time, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Kano state chapter, being the apex Igbo group in the state, wishes to inform all Igbo sons and daughters worldwide, and in fact, the general public, that there was never a time Mr. Boniface Ibekwe was nominated, appointed, elected, turbaned, crowned and or installed as Eze Di Ora Mma Ndigbo in Kano and or Igwe Ndi Igbo in Kano, by any group or persons representing the interest, culture, norms and the Igbo custom.

Since Ohanaeze has watched him all this while to, at least, dwell in self-correction and save himself the shame, and he is not in a hurry to do that, Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, therefore disown Mr. Ibekwe and his self-appointed title. Ohanaeze, therefore, responsibly declare as null and void, the Chieftaincy titles distributed by Mr. Boniface Ibekwe and urge all the recipients to withdraw such status because it is based on the bricks of fraud.

We also call on members of the public to recognize Chief John Chiejina Nnaji (Agu Na Eche Ibe Na Neke) as the Traditional Ruler, Igwe Ndigbo in Kano. Ohana Eze Ndigbo can recall that Chief Nnaji was conferred Eze Di Ora Mma IV in Kano, succeeding the late Barr. O.T. Nnadi in an elaborate ceremony attended by all discernable Igbo sons, friends of Ndigbo and representatives of the host community.

Finally, Ohanaeze Ndigbo warns Mr. Boniface Ibekwe to respect himself and let the Igbos in Kano be. Ohanaeze, however, assure the general public that Ndigbo in Kano remain united, peace loving and law abiding.

We remain,

Yours faithfully,

For and on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Kano State Chapter.

Hon. Chief Tobias Michael Idika

President, Ohanaeze Nd igbo Kano State Chapter.

Consumer Protection Council, CPC In An Irresponsible Act Of Gaining Cheap Popularity

  • How the Invaded our Office In Gestapo Style—El— Salem MD

The Consumer Protection Council, CPC are on the news but this time for the wrong reasons. Its action recently on property developer in Abuja has been described as an irresponsible act of gaining cheap popularity.

According to Mr. Ben Gbade Ojo, the Managing Director of El-Salem Nigeria Limited, he said; “on Monday February 25, 2013 around 10 am, residents and passer-by of the Garki Area 1 section watched in horror as a convey of vehicles belonging to the Consumer Protection Council(CPC) filled with its officials, thugs and stern-looking armed policemen, swept into the premises of El-Salem Nigeria Ltd, located in the area and in  a true Gestapo style, as if starring in a gangster movie, the CPC officials, along with their thugs and policemen, jumped out of their vehicles and invaded the head office of El-Salem workers on duty were quickly rounded-up at gun-point, while the invading CPC gang went from room to room, jerking off computers, office equipment, files, telecommunication cables and several other items.”

Not done with the invasion, Mr. Ben also alleged that, they CPC did carted away all the office equipment and loaded into their vehicles even as he said that members of the public gathered and looked on in amazement; “The El-Salem office was completely looted by the CPC officials and their thugs, and appeals by our traumatized and cowed staff to be allowed to take inventory of El-Salem property being carted away were rejected by the CPC officials and their thugs.”

To make the look like as if they are doing their job; “With their vehicles fully loaded with El- Salem property, the CPC officials set about addressing a group of journalists they brought with them. Right there on El-Salem premises, in the full hearing of members of the public, the CPC officials told the journalists that El-Salem was a fraudulent company engaged in the criminal activity of collecting money from members  of the public, promising to build houses for them but neither building nor refunding the money to customers. The CPC also alleged that invitations sent to El-Salem by the council top appear before it were not honoured by El-Salem, adding that El-Salem neither responded to their letters nor appeared at the Council’s office, the El- Salem MD said.

Speaking further, Mr. Ojo said that, he and the management of El- Salem Nigeria Limited wish to state, without any equivocation, that the CPC lied in all ramifications; “For the avoidance of doubt, El-Salem Nigeria Limited is a multiple, award-winning, mass housing development company with a verifiable track record of delivering high quality and affordable homes. We still hold the award of “most outstanding Estate Developer in Abuja” given tous by the (Resident Doctors Association of Nigeria Abuja Branch).”

Moreover he said that; El-Salem is a high ranking member of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) and also a member of the American National Association of Home Builders; “We also have, on-going housing projects 300 units Dutse Affordable Housing Estate. Dutse, Jigawa state. El-Salem has developed and delivered the Anu-Oluwa Estates, phase 1 and 2 in Kubwa and the houses were fully purchased by Nigerians who are living there now. Currently, El-Salem is developing Cooperative City Garden pyakassa, Lugbe, a beautifully planned700 units Housing Estate being developed in three phases 1 with over 250 housing units was completed and commissioned by the Honourable Minister of Lands, Housing and urban development, Ms. Ama Pepple. The beautiful estate boasts of a good tarred road network, 2 units of 500KVA transformers, streetlights, culverts, drainages, landscape grounds, water supply reservoirs, safety and security surveillance systems, provision for schools, medical centre, shopping centre, in addition to other trappings luxury.”

Meanwhile Contrary to the misinformation being dished out to the public by the CPC, El-Salem said that that there is no subscriber who has fully paid for a house that has not been given the house; “El-Salem has more houses in the estate than the subscribers. Till date, we do not have anybody who has completed payment for a house but who has not been given the house. There are still many houses at the estate waiting for buyers. We want to state clearly that the CPC wrote to us in respect of four subscribers who made equity payments of 20-30 percent but who have not been able to complete payment for their houses either installmentally  or through mortgage and yet are asking for houses to be given to them, or their equity payments to be refunded.”

According to the company it said that; “Firstly, El-Salem Nigeria Limited delivers houses only to subscribers who have made full payment for their houses either outright, installmentally or through mortgage. El-Salem does not deliver houses to those who have not made full payment for their houses. But for subscribers that made equity contribution of say 10-20 percent of the cost of the house and is unable to make further payments we do refund such deposits but the timing of the refund is absolutely subject to our cash flow since funds coming to the hand of a Developer is never for safekeeping but rather for building houses, roads, drainage and other amenities within the estate alternatively, the subscriber will have to wait for the house to be sold or get a buyer to buy the house in order to hasten the refund.”

Meanwhile El- Salem also said that; “Contrary to what the CPC told members of the public, on receiving the invitation from CPC, El-Salem responded in writing and the CPC received and acknowledge our letters. We also physically visited the CPC headquarters and made our position known to its officials. Having responded to the CPC both in writing and through visit to their office, we are therefore at a loss as to what informed the invasion of our head office by the CPC, and the looting of our property by its staff and thugs, with the police giving them armed cover to perpetrate this callous illegality.”

“We strongly believe that CPC has never bothered to visit the estate it is talking about and so has no knowledge of what is truly on ground at the estate. The Council is naively perpetrating illegality based on inaccurate information it received from four subscribers who till today have not completed payment for their houses but would like to be handed over the houses.”

I Will Continue To Aggressively Pursue The Overall Development Of Our State …. Gov Dickson

0

gov_dickson

Governor Seriake Dickson has reassured Bayelsans of his resolve to aggressively pursue the overall development of the state in spite of the rumours and propaganda being peddled by detractors of the present administration.

The Governor stated this during his monthly interactive session with Ward, Local Government and state Executive members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the state secretariat of the party in Yenagoa.

According to Hon. Dickson, those peddling the rumours are envious of the progress his administration has recorded in one year despite the daunting challenges that confronted it during the period.

He maintained that the antics of mischief-makers would not deter him from executing his restoration agenda in a way that will impact positively on the people of the State.

“My faith and confidence in you, the good people of Bayelsa has never shaken and will not shake. You deserve the best we can offer and let me assure you that the best is yet to come”

While acknowledging the contributions of wards and local government executives as critical structures of the party, Governor Dickson urged PDP members to remain steadfast in their support and show more interest in the affairs of government.

“When you have challenges, present them to the constituted authority at your level. If you are at the ward level, talk to your local government chairman. If you are at the working committee, raise all the concerns to the state chairman and working committee. Any day I come here I want to listen to all the complaints from the grassroots; how are the people faring? What are their priorities? What do they think of what we are doing in government? Because it is your government, if the government fails it is we all that have failed, it is the PDP that would have failed.”

He specifically enjoined ward leaders of the party to continually enlighten the grassroots people on the policies and programmes of government.

The Governor stressed the need for them to be on their guard at all times while calling on them to work in peace and harmony so as to ensure peace in the state.

He equally informed them that his itinerary ‘thank you’ tour would soon commence and would use it as an avenue for the party to present its candidates for the forthcoming local government polls in the state.

Hon. Dickson commended the state chairman for his commitment to duty as well as those of the state working committee while also thanking the entire PDP family in the state for their continuous prayers and support to government.

Earlier in his welcome address, the State PDP Chairman, Col. Sam Inokoba (rtd) poured encomiums on Governor Seriake Dickson over his giant strides in all the sectors of the state’s economy.

Recalling the sad occurrences in the state last year with the flood and the loss of great sons of the state, the State PDP Chairman predicted a blissful year for the party and the state in general.

Col. Inokoba said the recent rumours were intended to distract government from its good works and called on Bayelsans to desist from peddling unfounded rumours.

He also stressed the need for party members not sell their conscience and remain focused at all times.

NEMA Strategizes Against Terrorism

Lead+Cordinator+American+National+Counter+Terrorism+Center,+Magdalene+Bijj,+presents+emblem+to+DG+NEMA,+Muhd+Sani-Sidi+while+US

To improve the capacity of stakeholders in rescue operation whenever terrorists attack, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has begun a tabletop simulation exercise as a strategy on counterterrorism at the Institute for Security Studies, Abuja.

The exercise which is organized in a conjunction with the United States government, centre on the use of vital assets as independent protective devices and chemical pollution level detection instruments.

NEMA Director General, Mohammed Sani Sidi, while declaring the exercise open said emergency rescue exercise has become necessary now that terrorism is on the rise in Nigeria and the entire West African sub-region.

He explained that the simulation exercise would identify capabilities and gaps inherent in the preparations of relevant agencies to meet the exigencies of terrorists’ strikes.

“Of recent, Nigeria as a nation has had its fair share of this ugly phenomenon that has now made it necessary for us to gather in this serene environment to practice an articulated scenarios based tabletop simulation exercise to enhance our capacity towards facing this challenging phase of our national development”, he stated.

The NEMA boss insisted that as the only statutory body with the task of coordinating emergency response stakeholders, the agency has the responsibility to get everyone ready for any eventuality.

He thanked the US Government for all the support it has extended to Nigeria’s national emergency preparedness and especially the National Pandemic Disaster Response programme.

He also disclosed that NEMA has applied for a land upon which to build its proposed Centre for Disaster and Emergency management (CDEM) and that once the land application is granted by Federal Capital Territory, construction work will immediately commence. According to him, the centre will be a coordination point for stakeholders in emergency management both in the public and private sectors.

Speaking earlier, United States Ambassador, Terence P. McCulley said the exercise that was being conducted jointly by the American National Counterterrorism Centre would help to identify national capabilities, identify gaps, value needs among others.

He noted that terrorism is not peculiar to Nigeria but a collective problem of the entire sub-region as being experienced in Mali and other countries.
