Bauchi State Government in collaboration with the non-governmental organisation under the auspices of Executive Directors Forum have agreed to work together to improve the standard of education and increase girl’s enrolment in the State.

The Honourable Commissioner of Education, Dr Mohammed Lawal Rimin Zayan gave the assurance when he received a delegation from the EDs Forum members on a curtesy and advocacy visit to the Ministry, Wednesday in Bauchi.

Rimin Zayan who was represented during the visit by the permanent secretary Alh Ali Babayo Gamawa said the ministry is ever ready to partner with individuals, groups or organisations who have similar interest towards promoting of education in the State.

He disclosed that the ministry has gotten approval from his Excellency the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to employ three thousand teachers with a special consideration to core subjects in both basic primary schools and secondary schools respectively.

He assured the Forum that the ministry would look into their requests and see where possible to collaborate and support with a view to champion the course together.

Earlier in her speech, the Chairperson of the Executive Directors Forum, Mrs Lydia J Shehu Gar said the Forum has deemed it fit to pay the advocacy visit to introduce its members and solicit for possible collaboration.

She informed the Commissioner that the Forum has over 45 registered organisations who were working across all the 20 local government area councils in the state for decade in the areas of education, health, agriculture, youth and women empowerment among other critical areas.

She emphasized the importance of girls’ education, advocating for increased enrollment and empowerment of the girl child. The forum aimed to promote gender equality and bridge the education gap between girls and boys in the state.

Some of the Key points highlighted includes: Girls’ Education: The forum highlighted the significance of girls’ education in breaking the cycle of poverty and promoting socio-economic development. Enrollment Drive: Advocates urged for increased efforts to enroll more girls in schools, addressing the existing gender disparity in education. As well as Empowerment: The forum emphasized the need to empower girls through education, enabling them to make informed decisions about their lives and contribute to the development of their communities.

According to her, said “by promoting girls’ education, Bauchi state can unlock the potential of its future generations, fostering a more equitable and prosperous society”,.

Bauchi State Government has said that all is set to recruit three thousand teachers to feel the gap of vacuum created as a result of retirement of existing staff into the teaching scheme in the State.

The disclosure was made by the honorable commissioner of education, Dr Mohammed Lawal Rimin Zayan when he received a delegation of the Executive Directors of Civil Society Organizations (EDs Forum) at the Ministry, Wednesday in Bauchi.

He said the ministry had received approval from His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for recruitment of three thousand teachers in both basic and post primary and secondary schools across all the 20 local government area councils in the State.

Ably represented by Permanent Secretary, Alh Ali Babayo Gamawa said the ministry will soon commenced on the process after concluding all the necessary plan with a view to ensure free, fair, and transparent to all applicants in respective of tribe, religion and political affiliation.

He inform the Forum that process will also consider hard to reach areas in the three senatorial district to avoid unnecessary excuses after recruitment of transfer and absenteeism of teachers at their primary place assessment.

The commissioner, assured them that the ministry is always welcome good initiative towards improving the education sector in the state and ready to work with EDs Forum as partners.

Earlier, the leader of the Executive Directors delegation, Mrs Lydia J Shehu Gar said that they were at the Ministry to introduce and farmiliraze themselves in the ministry, as well as to solicit for partnership to improve the standard of education and increase girl’s enrollment in the State.

She noted more than 99 percent of the organisations have education sector as one of their thematic area or working in education sectors in the state.

For Mrs. MaryCynthia Ogechukwu Nnanyelugo, the disappearance of her husband, Hyginus Arinze Nnanyelugo and his vehicle since July 11, 2024, following his abduction with his vehicle by gunmen suspected to be either ransom kidnappers or hired assassins has remained a nightmare to her and the entire Nnanyelugo family members.

She therefore appealed to relevant security agencies to assist her and the bewildered family in tracing the missing Arinze Nnanyelugo Hyginus dead or alive, even as she lamented that his abduction since that July, 2024 had taken a long time.

In an affidavit sworn to at Law Chambers of Sir Ben Chudi Izuegbu Esq., a Notary Public, a copy of which was made available to newsmen, Mrs. Nnanyelugo further recalled that the heavily armed gunmen had at about 8.30 p.m. on July 11, 2024, at Onoja Oboli Street, opposite Modebe Secondary School, Odoakpu, Onitsha, Anambra state, Nigeria, abducted her husband with his Lexus RX 300 Jeep (Gold Colour) with Registration No. FGG 693 HC, adding that ever since then, his whereabout and the vehicle remained unknown.

In the affidavit sworn to on July 16, 2024, Mrs. Nnanyelugo averred that on the fateful day, her husband was driving home to No. 36 Sanniez Street, Odoakpu, Onitsha, Anambra state Nigeria when the abductors operating with a Tricycle, blocked his Lexus Jeep and abducted him together with the vehicle at Onoja Oboli Street and drove off to unknown destruction.

Giving the Engine No. of her missing husband’s Vehicle as 1MZ*4371507 and its Chassis No. as MCU10-0052334 Mrs. Nnanuelugo appealed to security agencies to assist her immensely in tracing the whereabout of her missing husband and possibly his missing vehicle as according to her, his absence has caused a lot of misfortune in their homestead.

Also, Mrs. Nnanyelugo obtained a police extract at Fegge Police Division in Onitsha at about 1.20 p.m. a day after the incident being July 12, 2024 thus confirming that her husband and his vehicle were actually missing till date.

In the police extract, she narrated how the gunmen used their tricycle to double-cross him and allegedly drove him away to an unknown destruction with his vehicle, adding that ever since then, his whereabout is yet to be ascertained.

She also displayed a copy of receipt from Radio Sapientia dated July 23, 2024 where she paid the sum of N35,000 for spot announcements buttressing that her husband and his vehicle were actually abducted and have been mssing since the abduction saga.

The Association of Disciples of a Renown Islamic Scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi known as MARKAZ OLD BOYS ASSOCIATION (MOBA) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani and Human Right Association to investigate the activities of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir Elrufa’i when he abused his power and violate the constitution of the Federal. Republic of Nigeria and attacked the residence of our respected scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi and evacuated 160 Qur’anic pupils to unknown destination.

A statement distributed to reporters in Bauchi at the end of the national Executive Council meeting of the Association signed by Mallam Ahmad Tijjani Muhammad Assistant secretary” described the raid as injustice, unwarranted and an abuse of the fundamental rights of the Scholar, his disciple’s right to live anywhere in the country. ”
Tijjani said “Invading the house of a renowned Islamic cleric, peace lover and Qur’anic legend “at 12 midnight, firing teargas on peaceful and sleeping students and his family is highly unwarranted and unjustifiable and a clear abuse of their fundamental human rights”

“Even if Sheikh didn’t say anything he deserved apology from the then Kaduns State Governor Mallam Nasir Elrufai:

“Sheikh is a spiritual leader that always prays for peace and stability in Kaduna State and Nigeria. He is the person government at all levels consult as elder and scholar of high repute on how to bring everlasting solution to the present security challenges in the country”

He said “We want President Bola Ahmed Tinibu, Governor Uba Sani, all human rights organizations to investigate the injustices done to the Islamic Scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi family and disciples.”
“We want the Government to bar Elrufa’i from holding any Position for ever for his lack of respect to human being and declare him a tyrant ruler who has no respect for the fundamental human right”.

“We want the Present Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani to do his best and right the wrong doings and human right abused by Elrufa’i to Maulana Sheikh Dahiru as a mark of respect to the over 100-year journey of propagating Islamic knowledge and preaching for peace and stability in Kaduna State and the country at large”

You will recalled that during Mal. Nasiru Elrufai administration security personnel staged a commando-style raid the residence of Respected Islamc scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi in Kaduna. They nabbed 160 qur’anic pupils from the residence learning at a tsangaya school belonging to renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi. And the raiders were officials of the Kaduna State Government under the instruction of Nasir El-Rufa’i. The taskforce had stormed the school a little past midnight while the children were sleeping.

Those apprehended were loaded in vehicles and escorted by security agents to the Hajj Camp along Mando Road The midnight raid generated quite an uproar, since when the incident happened especially because of the prominence of Shiekh Dahiru Bauchi. Since then the directorate of education of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Foundation made several efforts to recover the children many are still unaccounted for. .

A legal practitioner and civil rights activist, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has called on the Nigerian Senate to discipline the Senator representing Ebonyi North in the National Assembly, Onyekachi Nwebonyi if the Upper Legislative Chamber should retain any integrity.

He was reacting to the viral footage of the altercation between the Senator and a former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili during a hearing of the Senate Committee about the conduct of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Ejiofor, Layer to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in a statement said that Senator Nwebonyi’s prejudice against Natasha is so profound that he should be disqualified from participating in any findings, deliberations, or inquiries on the subject matter, given his publicly stated position on it.

He said, “I watched with profound disappointment the now-viral footage of Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, engaging in an appalling display of verbal assault and unruly conduct towards the esteemed former Minister of Education, Madam Oby Ezekwesili – widely respected as Madam Due Process – during a Senate Committee hearing.

“This deplorable behaviour is not only disgraceful but also emblematic of deeper moral decay, unchecked impunity, and a blatant disregard for decorum and human dignity. No public official, let alone a Senator entrusted with legislative responsibilities, should demean the office they occupy with such conduct.

“In a society where accountability prevails, Senator Nwebonyi would already be facing serious disciplinary consequences, including suspension. How did we get here? Posterity must hold them accountable someday. I call upon the leadership of the Senate to take swift and decisive action against this gross misconduct.

“Senator Nwebonyi’s prejudice against Natasha is so profound that he should be disqualified from participating in any findings, deliberations, or inquiries on the subject matter, given his publicly stated position on it.

“However, such unbecoming behaviour must not be tolerated or excused under any circumstances. Thankfully, a distinguished colleague of his rightfully observed that they are in the Senate, not in the market. This is horrible indeed!

“The unwarranted outburst is not only condemnable but has also succeeded in bringing the institution of the Senate into disrepute. If the Senate still retains any integrity, it is at stake, and failure to address this transgression would set a dangerous precedent – further emboldening the erosion of civility and respect within the hallowed chambers of the legislature.

“In contrast, I commend Madam Due Process for her dignified and exemplary composure in the face of this unwarranted attack. She has, once again, demonstrated the strength of character, intelligence, and poise that make her a model of leadership and statesmanship. Her ability to maintain grace under fire serves as an enduring lesson in decorum and resilience.

“The Senate must rise to the occasion and ensure that this culture of impunity is confronted head-on. The Nigerian people deserve a legislature that upholds the values of respect, integrity, and accountability.”

In a show of unity and solidarity, the leadership of the Ijaw ethnic nationality gathered in Bomadi, Delta State, on Tuesday for a one-day Ijaw National Sensitization Rally. The event, tagged “Stand Up for Ijaw Nation and Pa E.K. Clark,” was held in honor of the late Pa Chief Edwin Clark, a revered elder statesman of the Ijaw community, and to protest the removal of democratically elected officials in Rivers State by Minister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.

The rally, organized by the Congress for Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities (CONDEN) in collaboration with Ijaw groups from the Western Zone, attracted thousands of Ijaw indigenes, who expressed their concerns over recent developments in the region.

At the heart of the gathering was a call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to suspend the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his alleged derogatory remarks against the Ijaw people and the late Pa Edwin Clark. The protestors condemned what they described as a “disrespectful” treatment of the Ijaw community, urging the Nigerian government to take immediate action.

Speaking at the rally, several community leaders and activists raised concerns over the growing tension between the Ijaw people and Minister Wike, particularly over his comments regarding Pa E.K. Clark. Wike, who previously served as the governor of Rivers State, has been accused of making inflammatory statements that they claim undermine the contributions and legacy of the late Ijaw leader.

A symbolic gesture during the rally was the display of a mock coffin, which the participants said represented the perceived disrespect and political exclusion of the Ijaw people by certain political figures. As of now, the federal government has yet to respond to the calls for Minister Wike’s suspension.

Senator Nwoye Donates Wrappers to Women Ahead of 2025 Mothering Sunday, Gifts Constituent Car

No fewer than 25,000 pieces of high-quality branded six-yard uniforms have been donated to Catholic and Anglican women across the Anambra North Senatorial District, by the senator representing the district in National Assembly, distinguished Senator Tony Nwoye.

The kind gesture, which comes ahead of the 2025 Mothering Sunday celebration, benefitted members of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) from Onitsha Archdiocese and Aguleri Diocese, as well as Anglican women from four dioceses—Diocese on the Niger, Ogbaru Diocese, Niger West Diocese, and Niger East Diocese of the Anglican Communion.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at Nsugbe, Senator Nwoye revealed that he was moved to make the donation after an elderly CWO member approached him at an event in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Fegge, Onitsha, shortly after his election. The woman had pleaded with him to help indigent mothers afford the CWO uniform so they could attend meetings like other women.

The Senator stated that her appeal opened his eyes to the importance of the uniforms to Christian mothers, which led him to procure the 25,000 pieces for free distribution. He also made it clear that under no circumstances should the uniforms be sold to any beneficiary within the senatorial district.

Beyond the donation, Senator Nwoye urged mothers to reclaim their traditional role as agents of truth and moral guidance in society. He decried the growing fear among women in speaking out against poor leadership and societal ills, stressing that silence in the face of crime and corruption has worsened issues like kidnapping, ritual killings, and the get-rich-quick syndrome.

“Ndi Nne (Mothers), you have always been the voice of truth. Today, many mothers are afraid to speak out against poor leadership, and the society is suffering for it. We must rediscover that courage to bring real change to our families, our communities, Anambra State, and Nigeria at large. And it is the mothers who will champion this movement,” Nwoye stated.

Expressing gratitude, representatives of the beneficiaries—including the Director of CWO Onitsha Archdiocese, Mrs. Ngozi Nwanosike; the Secretary of CWO Aguleri Diocese, Mrs. Angela Ejike; and a representative of Anglican mothers from Ogbaru Diocese, Mrs. Uche Igwebuike—prayed for the senator and commended his generosity.

In another separate act of goodwill, Senator Nwoye also gifted a brand-new Toyota Corolla car to a respected community leader and former House of Assembly member, Chief Ossy Chinwuba. The senator said the donation was in recognition of Chief Chinwuba’s steadfastness and contributions over the years and to ease his movement within the senatorial district.

The event was filled with excitement and appreciation, as the beneficiaries and church leaders lauded the senator for his kindness and commitment to the welfare of his constituents.

Three people have sustained varied degrees of injuries in a multiple-vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday morning along the Oraifite-Onitsha Road in Anambra State.

According to the Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra State Command, RC Margaret Onobe, the crash, which happened at approximately 9:50 AM near Nwazota Oraifite Junction, involved a high-speed cement truck that lost control and rammed into other vehicles.

She further quoted eyewitness accounts as attributing the cause of the accident to excessive speed and loss of control.

According to her, Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of a white gray/blue Sino truck, with registration number NEM514XA, belonging to BUA Cement and driven by Onyekachi Chijioke, was speeding when he lost control. The truck crashed into a black Toyota Camry (GCE533FR), which was stationary at a T-junction, waiting for another truck to pass. The impact pushed the Camry into a green Daf commercial truck (9BGT18LG), driven by Mr. Sunday, causing a chain reaction.

She added that a total of eight adult males were involved in the crash, further explaining that, while five escaped unhurt, three others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to Josephine & Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Ifite Oraifite for medical attention. She, however, noted that fortunately, no fatalities were recorded.

RC Onobe explained that the FRSC officials from the RS 5.36 unit arrived promptly at the scene to provide first aid, manage traffic, and arrange for the clearance of the wreckage with the help of tow truck operators, further noting that the accident caused temporary traffic congestion, but normal movement was later restored.

Reacting to the incident, the FRSC Sector Commander in the State, Corps Commander Joyce Alexander, urged road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable crashes. She emphasized the dangers of excessive speeding, particularly among truck drivers, and called for responsible driving to ensure safer roads.

The FRSC reiterated its commitment to enforcing road safety measures in Anambra State and encouraged motorists to report reckless driving to the authorities for swift intervention.
