Oby Ezekwesili: Nwebonyi Is A Minus For Senate – Oby Ezekwesili

A legal practitioner and civil rights activist, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has called on the Nigerian Senate to discipline the Senator representing Ebonyi North in the National Assembly, Onyekachi Nwebonyi if the Upper Legislative Chamber should retain any integrity.

He was reacting to the viral footage of the altercation between the Senator and a former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili during a hearing of the Senate Committee about the conduct of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Ejiofor, Layer to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in a statement said that Senator Nwebonyi’s prejudice against Natasha is so profound that he should be disqualified from participating in any findings, deliberations, or inquiries on the subject matter, given his publicly stated position on it.

He said, “I watched with profound disappointment the now-viral footage of Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, engaging in an appalling display of verbal assault and unruly conduct towards the esteemed former Minister of Education, Madam Oby Ezekwesili – widely respected as Madam Due Process – during a Senate Committee hearing.

“This deplorable behaviour is not only disgraceful but also emblematic of deeper moral decay, unchecked impunity, and a blatant disregard for decorum and human dignity. No public official, let alone a Senator entrusted with legislative responsibilities, should demean the office they occupy with such conduct.

“In a society where accountability prevails, Senator Nwebonyi would already be facing serious disciplinary consequences, including suspension. How did we get here? Posterity must hold them accountable someday. I call upon the leadership of the Senate to take swift and decisive action against this gross misconduct.

“Senator Nwebonyi’s prejudice against Natasha is so profound that he should be disqualified from participating in any findings, deliberations, or inquiries on the subject matter, given his publicly stated position on it.

“However, such unbecoming behaviour must not be tolerated or excused under any circumstances. Thankfully, a distinguished colleague of his rightfully observed that they are in the Senate, not in the market. This is horrible indeed!

“The unwarranted outburst is not only condemnable but has also succeeded in bringing the institution of the Senate into disrepute. If the Senate still retains any integrity, it is at stake, and failure to address this transgression would set a dangerous precedent – further emboldening the erosion of civility and respect within the hallowed chambers of the legislature.

“In contrast, I commend Madam Due Process for her dignified and exemplary composure in the face of this unwarranted attack. She has, once again, demonstrated the strength of character, intelligence, and poise that make her a model of leadership and statesmanship. Her ability to maintain grace under fire serves as an enduring lesson in decorum and resilience.

“The Senate must rise to the occasion and ensure that this culture of impunity is confronted head-on. The Nigerian people deserve a legislature that upholds the values of respect, integrity, and accountability.”

Seyi Tinubu Declares: “My Father Will Complete His 8-Year Tenure—Nothing Can Change That, Not Even God”

By: Munir Geidam

In a bold and controversial statement, Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has declared that nothing—be it human opposition or divine intervention—can stop his father from completing his full eight-year tenure in office.

Speaking in a recent interview, Seyi asserted that Nigerians had their chance to oppose his father’s rise to power but failed to do so before he assumed office. He emphasized that, now that President Tinubu is in full control of the government, there is no force that could unseat him.

“If Nigerians couldn’t stop my father from becoming president after Buhari, what makes them think he would lose now when he has full control as president?” Seyi said, confidently asserting his belief in the political strength of his father’s administration.

Despite his strong words, Seyi Tinubu called on the nation to put aside political differences and work collaboratively toward building a better Nigeria. “Let’s all work together to bring out the best in Nigeria,” he urged citizens, highlighting the importance of unity in moving the country forward.

This statement from the President’s son comes at a time of growing political tensions and heightened opposition to his father’s government. Critics have raised concerns about the current administration’s policies and leadership style, but Seyi’s remarks reflect a firm belief in the resilience and determination of his father’s presidency.

While the statement is sure to spark further debate, it also underscores the confidence and resolve that the Tinubu family holds regarding the future of the current administration.

As President Bola Tinubu enters his second year in office, eyes will be on the political landscape to see whether this confidence translates into continued control or challenges for his leadership in the years ahead.

In a show of unity and solidarity, the leadership of the Ijaw ethnic nationality gathered in Bomadi, Delta State, on Tuesday for a one-day Ijaw National Sensitization Rally. The event, tagged “Stand Up for Ijaw Nation and Pa E.K. Clark,” was held in honor of the late Pa Chief Edwin Clark, a revered elder statesman of the Ijaw community, and to protest the removal of democratically elected officials in Rivers State by Minister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.

The rally, organized by the Congress for Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities (CONDEN) in collaboration with Ijaw groups from the Western Zone, attracted thousands of Ijaw indigenes, who expressed their concerns over recent developments in the region.

At the heart of the gathering was a call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to suspend the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his alleged derogatory remarks against the Ijaw people and the late Pa Edwin Clark. The protestors condemned what they described as a “disrespectful” treatment of the Ijaw community, urging the Nigerian government to take immediate action.

Speaking at the rally, several community leaders and activists raised concerns over the growing tension between the Ijaw people and Minister Wike, particularly over his comments regarding Pa E.K. Clark. Wike, who previously served as the governor of Rivers State, has been accused of making inflammatory statements that they claim undermine the contributions and legacy of the late Ijaw leader.

A symbolic gesture during the rally was the display of a mock coffin, which the participants said represented the perceived disrespect and political exclusion of the Ijaw people by certain political figures. The mock coffin was seen as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggles for recognition and justice in the Niger Delta region.

“The removal of democratically elected officials in Rivers State is a clear violation of democratic principles and an affront to the Ijaw nation,” one of the speakers declared. “We are gathered here today to demand justice, not only for Pa E.K. Clark, but for all Ijaw people who have been marginalized by the actions of Minister Wike.”

As the rally continued, the protesters held placards with messages calling for unity, respect, and the preservation of Ijaw heritage. The sentiment of the event was one of strength and resolve, as the Ijaw people voiced their collective desire for their voices to be heard in national political affairs.

The rally concluded with a call to action, urging the Nigerian government to act swiftly in addressing the concerns raised by the Ijaw leadership. The participants expressed their hope that their demands for justice, respect, and the fair treatment of the Ijaw people would not go unheard.

The Ijaw Nation remains a key stakeholder in the socio-political landscape of the Niger Delta, and this rally serves as a reminder of the importance of inclusivity and respect for all ethnic groups within Nigeria’s political framework. The demand for action against Minister Nyesom Wike, particularly in light of the late Pa Edwin Clark’s legacy, is expected to remain a focal point in ongoing discussions surrounding Ijaw political rights and representation.

As of now, the federal government has yet to respond to the calls for Minister Wike’s suspension.

No fewer than 25,000 pieces of high-quality branded six-yard uniforms have been donated to Catholic and Anglican women across the Anambra North Senatorial District, by the senator representing the district in National Assembly, distinguished Senator Tony Nwoye.

The kind gesture, which comes ahead of the 2025 Mothering Sunday celebration, benefitted members of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) from Onitsha Archdiocese and Aguleri Diocese, as well as Anglican women from four dioceses—Diocese on the Niger, Ogbaru Diocese, Niger West Diocese, and Niger East Diocese of the Anglican Communion.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at Nsugbe, Senator Nwoye revealed that he was moved to make the donation after an elderly CWO member approached him at an event in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Fegge, Onitsha, shortly after his election. The woman had pleaded with him to help indigent mothers afford the CWO uniform so they could attend meetings like other women.

The Senator stated that her appeal opened his eyes to the importance of the uniforms to Christian mothers, which led him to procure the 25,000 pieces for free distribution. He also made it clear that under no circumstances should the uniforms be sold to any beneficiary within the senatorial district.

Beyond the donation, Senator Nwoye urged mothers to reclaim their traditional role as agents of truth and moral guidance in society. He decried the growing fear among women in speaking out against poor leadership and societal ills, stressing that silence in the face of crime and corruption has worsened issues like kidnapping, ritual killings, and the get-rich-quick syndrome.

“Ndi Nne (Mothers), you have always been the voice of truth. Today, many mothers are afraid to speak out against poor leadership, and the society is suffering for it. We must rediscover that courage to bring real change to our families, our communities, Anambra State, and Nigeria at large. And it is the mothers who will champion this movement,” Nwoye stated.

Expressing gratitude, representatives of the beneficiaries—including the Director of CWO Onitsha Archdiocese, Mrs. Ngozi Nwanosike; the Secretary of CWO Aguleri Diocese, Mrs. Angela Ejike; and a representative of Anglican mothers from Ogbaru Diocese, Mrs. Uche Igwebuike—prayed for the senator and commended his generosity.

In another separate act of goodwill, Senator Nwoye also gifted a brand-new Toyota Corolla car to a respected community leader and former House of Assembly member, Chief Ossy Chinwuba. The senator said the donation was in recognition of Chief Chinwuba’s steadfastness and contributions over the years and to ease his movement within the senatorial district.

The event was filled with excitement and appreciation, as the beneficiaries and church leaders lauded the senator for his kindness and commitment to the welfare of his constituents.

Three people have sustained varied degrees of injuries in a multiple-vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday morning along the Oraifite-Onitsha Road in Anambra State.

According to the Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra State Command, RC Margaret Onobe, the crash, which happened at approximately 9:50 AM near Nwazota Oraifite Junction, involved a high-speed cement truck that lost control and rammed into other vehicles.

She further quoted eyewitness accounts as attributing the cause of the accident to excessive speed and loss of control.

According to her, Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of a white gray/blue Sino truck, with registration number NEM514XA, belonging to BUA Cement and driven by Onyekachi Chijioke, was speeding when he lost control. The truck crashed into a black Toyota Camry (GCE533FR), which was stationary at a T-junction, waiting for another truck to pass. The impact pushed the Camry into a green Daf commercial truck (9BGT18LG), driven by Mr. Sunday, causing a chain reaction.

She added that a total of eight adult males were involved in the crash, further explaining that, while five escaped unhurt, three others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to Josephine & Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Ifite Oraifite for medical attention. She, however, noted that fortunately, no fatalities were recorded.

RC Onobe explained that the FRSC officials from the RS 5.36 unit arrived promptly at the scene to provide first aid, manage traffic, and arrange for the clearance of the wreckage with the help of tow truck operators, further noting that the accident caused temporary traffic congestion, but normal movement was later restored.

Reacting to the incident, the FRSC Sector Commander in the State, Corps Commander Joyce Alexander, urged road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable crashes. She emphasized the dangers of excessive speeding, particularly among truck drivers, and called for responsible driving to ensure safer roads.

The FRSC reiterated its commitment to enforcing road safety measures in Anambra State and encouraged motorists to report reckless driving to the authorities for swift intervention.

Rift Between Wike and Fubara Exposed: Alleged ₦6 Billion Demand Sparks Tension

0

By: Joy Musa

In a revealing interview, Chief Anabs, a respected elder statesman from Rivers State, has shed light on the tensions that led to a rift between former Governor Nyesom Wike and current Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The issue, according to Fubara, stemmed from Wike’s demand for ₦6 billion monthly from the state’s allocation, which Fubara deemed unsustainable.

Fubara, in his statement, explained that when Wike left office, the state’s revenue was consistently ₦12 billion. However, under Fubara’s leadership, the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) had risen to ₦25 billion, marking a significant increase in the state’s financial capacity. Despite this progress, Fubara claimed that Wike continued to demand ₦6 billion of the state’s IGR, which would leave the state with only ₦6 billion for development and other essential needs.

“I told him ₦6 billion was too much; if we did that, we would have nothing left,” Fubara said, recounting the tension. “That was where our problem started.”

Chief Anabs’ account confirms Fubara’s version, with both parties highlighting the financial strain that such demands would have imposed on the state’s resources. This financial disagreement is believed to have been a key point of contention between the two leaders, especially as Fubara sought to stabilize and expand Rivers State’s fiscal standing.

The conflict underscores the challenges of managing the state’s finances, particularly as it balances internal revenue generation with the need to fulfill obligations to various stakeholders.

As the situation unfolds, many are keenly watching the relationship between the two figures and its impact on the future of Rivers State’s governance. For now, it appears that the fiscal dispute remains a significant issue, one that continues to shape the political landscape of the state.

The Lavish Lifestyle of Seyi Tinubu: A Stark Contrast to Nigeria’s Struggling Masses

0

By: Joy Musa

In recent times, the lavish lifestyle of Seyi Tinubu has come under intense scrutiny, raising questions about the source of his wealth and the ethical implications of flaunting such opulence while millions of Nigerians suffer under the weight of poverty.

One of the most glaring symbols of his wealth is the Richard Mille RM 11-03 watch, valued at over $500,000, which was recently spotted on his wrist. The sight of such luxury has sparked outrage among the masses, especially when juxtaposed with the dire economic conditions faced by Nigerians today.

While Nigerians are grappling with sky-high inflation, unemployment, and a deteriorating standard of living, Seyi Tinubu’s conspicuous display of wealth stands in stark contrast to the struggles of the everyday citizen.

The fact that he is part of a family closely linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the very party whose policies have often been criticized for deepening the divide between the rich and poor, only adds fuel to the fire.

In a country where millions of families are barely able to afford three square meals a day, Seyi Tinubu’s penchant for displaying extreme wealth has left many questioning the integrity behind his fortune.

His actions also raise concerns about the growing disparity between the elite and the general populace, who are increasingly becoming disillusioned with a system that seems to prioritize luxury and privilege for a select few, while the majority languish in poverty.

Adding to the controversy is his recent Ramadan tour to several northern states, where Seyi Tinubu was seen distributing food takeaways to locals in a manner that some have likened to that of a beggar’s handout. Critics argue that this gesture, which many see as patronizing, is a stark contrast to the massive cash and empowerment initiatives he is said to have extended to southern regions.

This unequal treatment of different parts of the country during a sacred religious season has left many questioning his motives and whether he truly understands the needs of the broader Nigerian population.

The irony of this situation is not lost on many. A man who can afford a Richard Mille timepiece worth more than most Nigerians’ entire life savings is seen offering food packages as a form of Ramadan charity to northerners, while southern citizens appear to benefit more from his financial empowerment. It begs the question: Is this an act of genuine charity, or just another attempt to solidify political influence and bolster a carefully crafted public image?

Furthermore, the optics of a man with immense wealth flaunting his luxuries in the face of a nation struggling with corruption, insecurity, and economic decline are deeply troubling. It speaks volumes about the disparity between the elite and the masses, and the message it sends to Nigerians is clear: wealth is to be flaunted, while the suffering of the ordinary citizen goes unnoticed.

The question of Seyi Tinubu’s source of income also remains unanswered. His family’s close ties to the ruling APC are well-documented, and many have speculated that his wealth may be tied to political influence or business ventures closely aligned with the current administration. However, the lack of transparency surrounding his financial activities only raises more questions about the legitimacy of his wealth and the ethical considerations behind his indulgent lifestyle.

At a time when Nigeria is facing unprecedented challenges, the lavish lifestyle of individuals like Seyi Tinubu only serves to further alienate the masses and perpetuate the divide between the rich and poor. His actions are a stark reminder of the deep-rooted inequality that continues to plague the country, and the growing need for a system that prioritizes the welfare of all Nigerians, not just the privileged few.

While it is undeniable that individuals have the right to enjoy the fruits of their labor, there is an ethical responsibility to acknowledge the struggles of those less fortunate. The display of wealth in a country where so many are struggling to survive sends a dangerous message – one that undermines the very essence of fairness and equality. As Nigeria continues to wrestle with its economic challenges, the actions of its political elite, including figures like Seyi Tinubu, must be held to greater scrutiny, especially when their fortunes are inextricably linked to the government currently in power.

The Nigerian people deserve better. They deserve leaders who are willing to invest in their future, to support policies that bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, and to lead with empathy, not excess. It is time for Seyi Tinubu and others in his social circle to reconsider the message they are sending, and whether their display of wealth is truly in alignment with the values that should guide a nation in crisis.
