โขย ย ย ย Warns Troublemakers
BY ABUCHIย IFESINACHI, AWKA
Sequel to the unending leadership crisis rocking the Eke Awka Market over the imposition of a caretaker committee to lead the market, the Anambra State government has issued what it calls a first and last warning to ASMATU, warning them to desist from their illegal actions or face the full wrath of the state government, even as the government has given recognition to the Agumadu-led market leadership.
This was made known in a letter signed and dated September 19, 2014, written to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Police Directorate of Criminal Investigation, Anambra state) by the special assistant to the Governor on parks and markets, Hon. Cyril Obiano which upheld the election that brought Chief Emeka Agumadu as the substantive chairman of the market.
The letter read in part: โKindly note the following as it concerns Eke-Awka Traders Union: – That the election has conducted as directed by the Honourable Commissioner of Commerce and Industry. That Mr. Emeka Agummadu and others successfully won the election. Consequently, this office endorsed the outcome of the election and congratulates him accordingly.
โIt is pertinent to make it clear that Local Government has no overriding power /right over the election or even appointment of caretaker committeeย in the Eke-Awka market. The above submission is made for your information and further actions towards bringing sanity in Eke-Awka in particular and all the markets in Anambra state in general,โ the letter said.
In another letter signed and dated 22 September, 2014, copied to the Deputy Commissioner of Police by the Honourable Commissioner for Industry Trade and Commerce, Honourable Ifeatu Onejeme stated as follows:
โI wish to refer to your letter reference no. AR.3000/ANS/X/P20/Vol. 7a/331 dated 17th September, 2014 on the above subject with thanks. โParagraph 2 of your letter requested for our confirmation of who is the Chairman of Eke-Awka Traders Union, Awka.
โThe state Government supervised a peacefully conducted election on 17th July, 2014 by the Eke-Awka Tradersโ Union, Awka, and Mr. Emeka Jude Agummadu was overwhelmingly elected the chairman of the Union.
Thus, the state Government recognizes Emeka Jude Agumadu as the chairman of Ee-Awka Tradersโ Union Awka.
Based on this back drop, therefore, we appeal that you use your good offices to help the state government to restore back sanity to Eke-Awka market,โ the Commissioner said.
