Barely three months to the Presidential election slated for January 16, 2027, the immediate past Federal Character Commissioner for Anambra State, Hon. (Rev) Uche Ukadike Ibeabuchi, has called for the return of President Bola Tinubu for a second tenure in office.

According to Ibeabuchi great nations are not built on convenient decisions rather they are forged through courage, visionary leadership, and a willingness to confront structural challenges head-on.

In a press statement issued in Onitsha, Anambra state, ibeabuchi lamented that for decades, Nigeria stood at a critical economic crossroads relying on unsustainable fiscal policies and short term palliatives that deferred structural growth.

According to him, “When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office, he inherited an economy in need of urgent restructuring. Rather than adopting soft measures to preserve short term political popular appeal, President Tinubu chose the path of statesmanship. He initiated structural economic reforms designed to shift Nigeria from consumption to sustainable production”.

“Real national growth requires initial sacrifices, but the foundations being laid today are laying the groundwork for a prosperous future,” he stated.

On the end to the Fuel Subsidy, he disclosed that it marked Reclaiming Wealth for National Development, stating that for years, the petrol subsidy regime drained trillions of Naira from the national treasury, starving critical sectors like health, education, and public infrastructure of vital investments, adding that Tinubu’s bold declaration to end the fuel subsidy regime was a decisive fiscal step.

“By eliminating this fiscal burden, national revenues have significantly increased. State and local governments now receive higher allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), empowering them to drive local development directly. The capital once lost to inefficiency is now being redirected into productive infrastructure, social safety nets, and industrial capacity.

Also on Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, he disclosed that it has Guaranteed Higher Education for All, stating that Human capital is the ultimate driver of long term economic growth, and no young Nigerian should be denied higher education due to financial constraints.

“Through the establishment of the NELFUND, President Tinubu has created a sustainable institutional framework that provides interest free loans to tertiary students nationwide.

“NELFUND ensures that talent, ambition, and merit determine educational attainment, rather than personal socio-economic background. By empowering hundreds of thousands of youth with higher education and technical skills, the administration is preparing Nigeria’s workforce to lead in the modern global economy.

“Expanding Mass Housing and Infrastructure Development give access to affordable housing and modern infrastructure is fundamental to social stability and economic expansion. Through strategic national housing initiatives, including the Renewal Cities and Estates program under the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Tinubu administration is addressing the national housing deficit.

“These housing projects serve a dual purpose: providing shelter for Nigerian families and driving large-scale employment across the construction sector. From artisans and laborers to engineers and local suppliers, the real estate expansion is pumping vitality into local economies.

“Concurrently, transformative infrastructure drives such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and major national rail and road expansions are reducing transit times, lowering logistics costs for businesses, and unlocking agricultural corridors across all geopolitical zones and the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway, designed to connect markets and lower the cost of moving goods,” he revealed.

On the Macro-economic Alignment and Foreign Direct Investment Ibeabuchi stated that beyond targeted projects, President Tinubu’s unified foreign exchange framework has addressed long standing currency market distortions.

” While structural market adjustments naturally present short term recalibrations, establishing transparent, market driven monetary policies is essential to restoring investor confidence.

“International financial institutions, sovereign wealth investors, and private enterprises are recognizing Nigeria’s commitment to institutional reform. These structural shifts are laying the foundation to attract major Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) across agriculture, renewable energy, technology, and manufacturing.

“The same thinking runs through the administration’s other efforts:The Presidential CNG Initiative, which offers cheaper, cleaner alternatives to costly petrol and diesel.

Domestic refining, as the Dangote refinery’s arrival in the petrol market shows how reform and private investment can reduce dependence on imports.

On Tax reform, he expressed satisfaction with the new tax laws simplifying a fragmented system, cutting duplication, and aiming to make Nigeria a more predictable place to do business.

According to Ibeabuchi the Banking sector recapitalisation, has strengthened financial institutions so they can finance larger projects and withstand shocks, citing the ₦70,000 national minimum wage as a clear signal that reform must ultimately benefit workers.

The former Commissioner reiterated that Progress Requires Courage and Collective Vision adding that

Economic transformation is rarely effortless as every major nation that achieved industrial development endured necessary periods of transition and fiscal adjustment.

“President Tinubu’s reforms represent the deliberate choices required to secure a self sustaining economy.

“By dismantling long standing structural inefficiencies, expanding social safety programs, and investing heavily in youth, housing, and infrastructure, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is demonstrating the resolute leadership needed to guide Nigeria toward enduring economic prosperity”, Ibeabuchi affirmed.
