OSOGBO — International music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has issued a stern warning to Imo State Governor and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, Hope Uzodimma, demanding that he refrain from turning the upcoming Osun State governorship election into a violent political battleground.
The public outcry follows Governor Uzodimma’s appointment to head the ruling party’s national campaign council for the Osun off-cycle election—a development that has triggered heightened anxiety among Osun indigenes, civil society coalitions, and opposition groups.
Davido, who is an indigene of Osun State and nephew to incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, cautioned against any attempts to deploy heavy-handed political machinery, voter intimidation, or security high-handedness to subvert the sovereign will of the Osun electorate.
Critics and political observers have drawn attention to Governor Uzodimma’s controversial political track record, pointing to the Supreme Court judgment that elevated him from fourth place to the governorship of Imo State, as well as the protracted security breakdown in Imo State where thousands of youths were reportedly targeted and killed under the guise of anti-separatist operations against IPOB/ESN.
Demanding an uncompromised electoral process, Davido urged political actors, party foot soldiers, and security personnel to respect democratic norms, warning that Osun citizens will actively resist any plot to destabilize the state or replicate contentious political models.
