KANO — Outspoken Kano All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Abdulmajid Dan Bilki Commander, has openly faulted traditional and religious leadership over their alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, asserting that the Sultan of Sokoto does not speak for the entirety of Northern Muslims.
Speaking to political associates in Kano, Dan Bilki Commander addressed ongoing discussions regarding the role of traditional institutions in political advocacy, insisting that religious leaders ought to present the true economic realities confronting citizens rather than offering political endorsements.
Comparing the approach of Islamic leaders to recent interventions by Christian leaders, the APC chieftain pointed out that the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria demonstrated courage during their recent visit to Aso Rock by directly laying out the challenges of hunger, inflation, and insecurity before the President. He urged Northern leadership to adopt a similar transparent stance on behalf of their people.
Challenging the ruling party’s trajectory in the region, Dan Bilki Commander declared that Northern voters would realign their political mandate in the 2027 presidential election, stating that Arewa will rally behind former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
The public pushback from within the ruling party highlights deepening political fractures across the North, as local political leaders continue to debate economic conditions and strategic alignments ahead of the next general elections.
