ABEOKUTA, NIGERIA — Former Ogun Central Senator, Professor Iyabo Obasanjo, has formally rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), less than a week after resigning from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Following her resignation from the APC on May 31, 2026—driven by the denial of the governorship ticket and alleged exclusion from party processes—the former Ogun Health Commissioner formally returned to the PDP in Abeokuta on Monday. After recently returning from the U.S. to resume politics, she cited disrespect from APC leadership as a factor in her departure.
At a PDP event, she pledged support for the party’s 2027 gubernatorial efforts. This shift follows recent meetings between PDP leaders and her father, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in a move indicating early realignment in Ogun State politics.
