IBADAN, NIGERIA — Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, younger sister to former Minister of Power and APC gubernatorial aspirant Chief Adebayo Adelabu, was abducted alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, in Ibadan on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
The Incident
The kidnapping occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the Elewura area of Challenge, Ibadan South West LGA. Mrs. John-Paul was driving her children to school in a wine-colored Hyundai Sonata when gunmen in a silver Toyota Camry intercepted them, forcing them into the getaway vehicle.
Family Response and Investigation
Adelabu’s media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, confirmed the incident, urging calm while security agencies initiate rescue operations. The family is understandably distressed, as Mrs. John-Paul, a former banker, was preparing to join her husband in the US.
Security Situation
This brazen daylight kidnapping highlights rising insecurity in Ibadan, prompting the Oyo State Police Command to deploy tactical units to cordon off exit routes, including the Akala Expressway. Authorities are actively searching for the victims.
