ABUJA, NIGERIA – Popular social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, universally known as “VeryDarkMan” (VDM), has debunked rumors of his arrest by security operatives, announcing a temporary dispersal of his anti-insecurity demonstrations after a tense standoff at the Karu Bridge in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The activist, who has been leading highly publicized street protests targeting the nation’s defense establishment, assured his followers that the movement remains active and that new demonstration zones will be revealed shortly.

Dispelling Arrest Rumors

The clarification followed widespread speculation across social media platforms that VDM had been picked up by joint security forces during a confrontation at the strategic Karu transit corridor. Security forces had earlier established heavy blockades along major Abuja routes to prevent the crowds from marching back to the Ministry of Defence.

Addressing his followers to clear the air, VDM confirmed his safety and instructed the gathered crowd to withdraw for the day.

“I was not arrested. I just left Karu Bridge in Abuja,” the activist stated in a direct message to the public. “We can all go home now, and I will inform Nigerians of the next protest location on another day.”

The Karu Bridge Standoff

The Karu Bridge became a primary flashpoint on the latest day of demonstrations after security agencies—including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and Civil Defence operatives—fortified the roads leading into the city center.

Prevented from reaching the military headquarters (Ship House), hundreds of protesters chanting anti-banditry slogans gathered at the bridge, resulting in a prolonged traffic deadlock. The decision to temporarily stand down was seen by observers as a tactical move to avoid a direct, violent clash with heavily armed law enforcement units.

A Sustained Campaign

The street movement, organized under VDM’s “Ratel Movement,” has maintained immense pressure on the Federal Ministry of Defence over the past several days. The protesters are demanding immediate, transparent military action to rescue abducted schoolchildren, as well as a full accounting of multi-trillion naira defense allocations in the face of ongoing rural banditry and terrorism.

While the capital city has experienced a temporary calm following VDM’s directive to disperse, security agencies remain on high alert. The activist’s promise to announce a new location indicates that the citizen-led push for institutional accountability is far from over.
