ABUJA — A major political storm is brewing within the newly aligned opposition structures ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the Obidient Movement formally rejected the appointment of Theo Abu Agada as the Director of New Media and Strategic Communications for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The appointment, which was announced by the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, triggered intense anger across social media due to Agada’s prominent public record of fierce online hostility and criticism toward the party’s presumed flagbearer, Peter Obi.
“We Cannot Support Him” — Obidient Leadership Reacts
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Tanko Yunusa, confirmed that the support base has rejected the appointment, labeling Agada as an “antagonistic” force.
Yunusa told the Peoples Gazette that the movement, having not nominated Agada, cannot support his appointment due to his antagonistic history with Peter Obi, noting that discussions are ongoing with NDC leadership to reverse the decision.
Internal Backlash and Political Risks
Supporters are calling for the immediate reversal of the appointment, viewing the decision to place a vocal critic in a top communication role as a direct challenge to the movement. This incident exacerbates existing tensions within the NDC alliance following previous controversies, with analysts warning that ignoring the grassroots backlash could alienate vital support.
