ABUJA, NIGERIA — Outspoken broadcast journalist and political commentator Rufai Oseni has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of employing “desperate and rascally” tactics to destabilize the nation’s opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oseni’s remarks come on the heels of emerging legal battles and political friction surrounding the National Democratic Coalition (NDC)—the new political platform reportedly being eyed by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The 48-Hour Legal Attack
Taking to his social media platforms to expose what he terms an orchestrated witch-hunt, Oseni pointed out a highly calculated timeline of events that suggests the presidency is actively monitoring and targeting Peter Obi’s political movements.
According to Oseni, the timeline reveals a deep-seated panic within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) camp:
- May 3rd: Peter Obi officially aligns or solidifies talks with the newly formed/realigned opposition platform, the NDC.
- May 5th: Barely 48 hours later, legal actions and petitions are filed by elements allegedly tied to the presidency—whom Oseni firmly labeled as “Tinubu’s termites”—to disrupt the party’s foundation.
“Peter Obi joined NDC on May 3rd. Tinubu’s termites filed the case on May 5th. Tinubu only knows one trick: destroy the opposition,” Oseni stated emphatically.
“Lagos Rascality Imported to Abuja”
Delving into the political history of the president, the Arise News anchor argued that President Tinubu’s current strategy is a repackaging of the political subversion he perfected during his era as the godfather of Lagos politics.
Oseni warned that the continuous assault on any political structure Peter Obi associates with is a toxic precedent that threatens Nigeria’s fragile multi-party democracy.
“He perfected it in Lagos, now he’s importing the same rascality to the national level,” Oseni fired. “By desperately attacking NDC just as he has done to every party Peter Obi goes to, he’s screaming one thing loud: he’s terrified of PO.”
“No Strategy, Just Fear”
As the momentum for 2027 builds, opposition figures have frequently accused the ruling APC of prioritizing the infiltration and destruction of opposition parties over addressing the structural economic hardships facing everyday Nigerians.
Concluding his assessment, Oseni noted that the presidency’s rapid legal and political onslaught reveals an administration devoid of a genuine strategy to win over voters on merit.
“No tact, no strategy to convince voters. Just fear,” Oseni remarked, signaling that the administration’s aggressive posture is born out of a realization that a unified opposition under Peter Obi remains a formidable threat to Tinubu’s second-term ambitions.
