PORT HARCOURT — In a major cross-party endorsement ahead of the 2027 general elections, a delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders and political leaders in Rivers State has purchased the expression of interest and nomination forms for the incumbent Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The move, which highlights a shifting political landscape in the state, was led by Hon. Awaji-Inombek Abiante, the member representing Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation after securing the documents, Abiante stated that the decision was reached following extensive consultations among elders and leaders across the state’s three senatorial districts. He emphasized that the move was made “in the overriding interest of Rivers people,” citing the need for continuity and stability in the state’s governance.
While Governor Fubara was elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), this gesture by APC stalwarts signals an unconventional alliance as the state prepares for the next election cycle. The move comes amid a period of significant political realignment in Rivers State, as leaders from various factions seek to consolidate support for the governor’s second-term bid.
Supporters of the governor have hailed the development as a testament to his “all-inclusive” leadership style, while political observers suggest this could set the stage for a unique coalition-led campaign in 2027.
