Declare Sen Abaribe Seat Vacant Says APGA

The All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA has urged the Senate to declare the seat of Sen Enyinaya Abaribe vacant following his unlawful defection out of the party

The party also announced the dissolution of the State Working Committee of the party at the Federal Capital Territory FTC Abuja following what it called the disturbing developments in the area.

According to the communique reached at the NWC and NEC of the party which was made public by the National Publicity Secretary of the party Mazi Ejimofor Opara, the party stated that the Caretaker Committee shall be constituted upon notification to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

“In response to disturbing developments in the FCT Chapter, NWC approved the immediate dissolution of the State Working Committee, Local Government Executive Committees and Wards Executive Committees of the FCT chapter”

“NWC further notes that a Caretaker Committee shall be duly constituted, upon notification to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in line with the Constitution of APGA”

Also contained in the communique of the party is the ratification of the guidelines for the conduct of primary elections of the party .

“Consequently, NWC unanimously approved and ratified the 2026 APGA Electoral Guidelines for APGA Primaries as well as the Timetable/Schedule of Activities for 2026 APGA Primary Election”

The party also hailed the position of the Senate over the unlawful defection of Sen Enyinaya Abaribe form the party noting that the move by the Senate was in defence of the country’s democracy asking the Red Chambers to declare his seat vacant .

“NWC commends the leadership of the Senate under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON and other courageous Senators who stood firm in defence of democracy and constitutional order regarding the unlawful defection of Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe from APGA”

“NWC calls on the Senate leadership to invoke relevant provisions of the Constitution and declare his seat vacant, in light of his betrayal of the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Abia South Senatorial District” the communique read .

The NWC tasked all officers of the party at all levels to continue to observe utmost discipline and uphold decorum in the conduct of their affairs particularly in the build up to the 2026 APGA Primaries.

The party noted that the party will not hesitate to mete out appropriate disciplinary measures on officers who flout the provisions of the party’s constitution or who may engage in unwholesome conduct during the APGA primaries.
