ABUJA, Nigeria – In a moment of accidental honesty that has Nigerians reaching for their blood pressure medication, APC Chieftain Hon. Farouk Adamu Aliyu has openly admitted that the ruling party’s 2027 strategy isn’t about better governance—it’s about professional “bad belle.”
Appearing on Channels Television, the former Minority Leader confirmed what many already suspected: the APC is actively working to ruin the plans of the opposition coalition, specifically the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The “Sand in Garri” Doctrine
Forget manifesto debates or economic solutions; Aliyu’s political strategy is straight out of a primary school playground. Using the classic Nigerian idiom for sabotage, he boasted that the APC is busy “putting sand inside the garri” of any group trying to form a united front against them.
“We will put sand inside their garri, that’s exactly what we are doing,” Aliyu said, with the confidence of a man who hasn’t checked the current price of a bag of actual garri. “If anybody is serious about opposition, please stay in your opposition and oppose us.”
“No Viable Threat”
While the ADC and its allies—reportedly including heavyweights like Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai—attempt to build a “mega-party,” Aliyu dismissed the effort as a comedy of errors. He mocked the coalition as a “conglomeration of presidential candidates” where everyone wants to be the groom and nobody wants to be the best man.
“There is no viable opposition in this country that can defeat us,” he declared, effectively telling the rest of the political class to sit down and eat their “sandy” meal in silence.
The Audacity of the Apology
In a whiplash-inducing turn of events, Aliyu followed his “sabotage” comments by actually begging Nigerians for forgiveness. During the same interview, he admitted the APC has had its “shortcomings”—a polite way of describing record-breaking inflation and insecurity—and asked for another chance in 2027.
The irony was not lost on viewers. “You are putting sand in the opposition’s garri while the masses can’t even afford the garri to begin with,” one social media user shot back.
The ADC Claps Back
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) wasn’t about to let the “sand” comment slide. National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi hit back, suggesting the APC should spend less time acting like “village witches” sabotaging neighbors and more time fixing the “crushing poverty” they’ve presided over.
As the 2027 “Real Politics” season kicks off, it’s clear the APC isn’t interested in a fair fight. They’ve brought the sand; now the opposition has to decide if they’re going to eat it or throw it back.
