ABUJA – Firebrand activist and ADC chieftain Aisha Yesufu has sent a massive tremor through the political establishment, declaring that the 2027 general election will be nothing short of “war.”
Speaking on the sidelines of the brewing leadership crisis between the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the electoral umpire, Yesufu warned that Nigerians are no longer in the mood for “business as usual” and are prepared to fight for the very soul of the country.
“Fighting for Our Lives”
Yesufu’s “war” rhetoric is a direct response to what she describes as a coordinated attempt by the state to “de-platform” the opposition. With INEC currently refusing to recognize the Senator David Mark-led ADC leadership, Yesufu insists that the ruling class is underestimate the resolve of the streets.
“We are not going to sit back while some people think they have the monopoly on ‘anyhowness’ or madness,” Yesufu declared, her voice thick with defiance. “2027 will be war because we are fighting for our lives. This is not about a ballot paper; it’s about survival.”
A Battle on Two Fronts
The “war” cry comes at a time when the opposition is being hit from all sides. From Governor Bala Mohammed’s “Gestapo” allegations in Bauchi to Nasir El-Rufai’s explosive claims of illegal ₦100 billion monthly deductions by the Presidency, the narrative of an embattled democracy is reaching a fever pitch.
Yesufu’s stance aligns with the #OccupyINEC movement, which has seen thousands of “Obidients” march on the commission’s headquarters to demand the resignation of Chairman Joash Amupitan. The protesters are demanding a legislative mandate for the real-time electronic transmission of results to prevent the “glitches” that defined the 2023 cycle.
Skeptics and The “Elephant”
Not everyone is buying the combativeness. Former Senator Shehu Sani took a swipe at the opposition’s strategy of reporting INEC to the Trump administration, noting that Nigeria is likely not among Washington’s “top 50 priorities.” Sani quipped that the opposition might have better luck reporting the matter to CAF.
Meanwhile, the APC has dismissed Yesufu and her allies as a “kamikaze contraption” that is unraveling due to its own internal confusion. National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka mocked the ADC’s “senseless attacks,” insisting that a party that cannot fix itself cannot possibly fix Nigeria.
The April 9 Litmus Test
As the ADC prepares to defy INEC by holding its ward congresses on April 9, Yesufu’s “war” declaration serves as a rallying cry for the opposition’s rank and file. For many, the “miracle” needed for 2027 is no longer divine intervention, but the raw courage to stand up to what they describe as “institutional bullying.”
With the Action Peoples Party (APP) also circling as a “Plan B” for the Peter Obi group, the “Elephant” in the room is getting ready for a stampede. Whether 2027 ends in a democratic victory or a full-scale political collision, Aisha Yesufu has made one thing clear: the days of “quiet participation” are over.
