ABUJA — Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has officially sounded the alarm for PDP lawmakers who recently jumped ship to the APC, warning them that their new political home is a desert, not a sanctuary. Speaking during a high-stakes gathering in Abuja this weekend, the Kogi Central Senator didn’t mince words, telling defectors that they have traded “relevance for a title” and urging them to retrace their steps before they are completely sidelined.
The Senator’s appeal comes at a desperate time for the opposition. Akpoti-Uduaghan revealed a staggering collapse in the party’s strength, noting that the PDP’s presence in the Senate has withered from 37 members just two years ago to a mere six senators today. “I am telling my colleagues: trust me, it is not greener on the other side,” she declared, framing the APC as a place where former PDP power players go to become “backup singers.”
But the real headline wasn’t just the plea—it was the loyalty shift. Senator Natasha has firmly planted her flag in the Nyesom Wike-led faction of the party, a move that effectively draws a battle line against the rival faction backed by Governor Seyi Makinde. By aligning with the Wike group—currently recognized by the courts and INEC—she has signaled that the power struggle within the PDP is entering a “scorched earth” phase ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Wike faction wasted no time, appointing former Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to head its National Convention Committee, calling this a “political reset.” For Natasha, the goal is clear: stop the bleeding. She argued that members should stay and fight their internal battles rather than running to the ruling party, which she claims will never truly embrace them.
As the PDP continues to tear itself apart, Natasha’s gamble on the Wike faction raises the stakes for the entire opposition. For those who left, the door is apparently open—but for those who stayed, the internal war for the soul of the party is just getting started.
