BAUCHI — Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully dislodged armed terrorists from several communities in the Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, ending a recent reign of terror in the region.
The offensive, carried out under the banner of Operation BUGUN KARKANDA III, specifically targeted Mansur Village and surrounding settlements where armed groups had attempted to establish a permanent foothold.
Operational Dominance
In a statement released on Thursday, March 5, Lieutenant Colonel Olumide Victor Olukoya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 3 Division, confirmed that soldiers executed a high-precision advance into identified terrorist enclaves.
The military established total operational dominance, forcing the insurgents to abandon their positions and retreat into the fringes of the forest.
“Following a well-coordinated offensive, troops rapidly established dominance over key areas and successfully dislodged armed terrorists from Mansur Village. A thorough clearance led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, further weakening the terrorists’ operational capacity,” Olukoya stated.
Restoring Economic Life
The dislodgement of the criminal elements has brought immediate relief to the local population. With the terrorists cleared, displaced residents have begun returning to their ancestral homes.
- Farming & Trade: Local communities have started resuming farming, trading, and other socio-economic activities that had been paralysed by the insecurity.
- Intensified Patrols: Security teams have intensified patrols across Alkaleri to ensure that the groups do not find the space to regroup or launch retaliatory strikes.
Commander’s Commendation
Major General Folusho Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, commended the troops for their gallantry. He charged them to maintain the “operational momentum” to ensure long-term stability across Bauchi State and its environs.
The Army has reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable rural communities, emphasising that intelligence-driven operations will remain a priority in the ongoing crackdown on banditry and terrorism in the North.
