ABUJA — The long-running digital war of nerves between former presidential aide Reno Omokri and the 2023 Labour Party candidate, Mr Peter Obi, reached a fever pitch on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Responding to a growing chorus of critics who accuse him of an “unhealthy obsession” with the former Anambra Governor, Omokri has hit back, insisting his critiques are a vital service in a “climate of political myths.”

Omokri’s latest intervention arrives just as Peter Obi joined hundreds of protesters at the National Assembly gates to demand a reversal of the Senate’s rejection of mandatory electronic result transmission. While the “Obidient” movement hails the move as a fight for transparency, Omokri has branded it a display of “technological hypocrisy.”

The ‘Real-Time’ Paradox

Omokri’s primary “fixation” this week centered on the feasibility of the very technology Obi is championing. In a viral post that has sparked thousands of reactions, Omokri pointed to Obi’s deep roots in the Nigerian banking sector to question his current stance.

“If Peter Obi can’t guarantee real-time money transfer in his bank, how can he want INEC to guarantee real-time transmission of election results?” Omokri queried. He argued that it is disingenuous for a leader to demand “instant digital perfection” from a government agency when the private institutions he has led for decades still grapple with network latencies and transactional delays.

A Nation ‘Pushed to the Brink’

Supporters of Peter Obi, however, see Omokri’s “fact-checking” as a tactical distraction from the “Regime Security” culture recently decried by former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

  • The Global Eye: While Omokri focuses on Obi’s bank transfers, British vlogger Indigo Traveller has gone viral for a different reason: condemning the demolition of a ₦100 million Lagos orphanage without notice, an act that has rendered dozens of children homeless.
  • The Corruption Factor: The Transparency International ranking of Nigeria as 142nd in the world has further fueled the narrative that the current administration—which Omokri frequently defends—is retrogressing on institutional integrity.

‘Distinguished’ Clashes and Elite Disconnect

The Omokri-Obi feud is playing out against a backdrop of extraordinary tension at the National Assembly. Just today, the House witnessed a fierce exchange between Works Minister David Umahi and Senator Adams Oshiomhole, with the Minister asserting, “I am a distinguished Nigerian,” in response to tough questioning over the ₦15 trillion coastal highway.

Protesters at the gate, inspired by Zekeri Idris, have asked why “Distinguished Nigerians” are more focused on budget optics and “bank transfer” debates than the fact that bandits are successfully livestreaming from forests while the state claims it cannot transmit a vote.

‘My Discomfort is With Falsehood’

Omokri maintains that his stance is not personal. “My discomfort is with the myth-making, not the man,” he clarified. However, as 300 Christians were recently butchered in 72 hours and petrol prices near ₦1,000 per litre, the Nigerian public appears less interested in Omokri’s “bank metaphors” and more concerned with the staggering ₦152 trillion national debt and the looming 2027 “Patriotic Assignment”.

The Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) Adewole Adebayo has already warned that the current protests are merely a “fashion parade” compared to the unrest being planned. For now, Omokri continues his “fixation,” while the rest of the nation watches the terrorism financing trial of Abubakar Malami for signs of real accountability.
