Abuja, Nigeria – Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared his unshakeable grip on Rivers State, warning that no one can remove him from his political base. “My political base in Rivers is unshakable, nobody in Rivers can push me out, Fubara will not return let heaven fall,” Wike boasted.
The statement comes amidst ongoing tensions between Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara, with the Rivers State House of Assembly initiating impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu. The move is seen as part of a power struggle between Wike and Fubara, with allegations of gross misconduct, including refusal to present the 2026 budget and extra-budgetary spending.
Wike’s assertion of dominance in Rivers State is seen as a response to Fubara’s recent actions, including his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Minister has insisted that Fubara will not secure a second term, citing his failure to provide effective leadership.
President Bola Tinubu has intervened in the crisis, summoning Wike for a meeting to address the situation. The development has sparked concerns about the stability of Rivers State and the potential impact on the country’s democratic process.
