King Asari Dokubo, a prominent Ijaw leader, has thrown his weight behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara, warning that any attempt to impeach him could destabilize Rivers State. Dokubo, who holds the title of Da-Amakiri Tubo and Amanyanabo of the Elem Kalabari Kingdom, expressed his support for Fubara, citing the governor’s role in elevating him to a first-class king.
In a live Facebook video, Dokubo stated, “Tinubu is my friend and I will give him my 100% support, but Siminalayi Fubara is my Ijaw brother and I will stand with him.” He emphasized that all governors in Rivers State have served two terms, and an Ijaw man will do the same.
Dokubo’s statement comes amid heightened tensions in Rivers State, with President Bola Tinubu’s administration accused of backing Minister Nyesom Wike’s efforts to remove Fubara from office. The Ijaw leader warned that Tinubu should call Wike to order, emphasizing that Fubara’s impeachment could lead to political unrest.
The situation remains tense, with stakeholders urging calm and calling for dialogue to resolve the crisis. Dokubo’s support for Fubara is seen as a significant boost to the governor’s chances of surviving the impeachment proceedings.
