The All Progressives Congress (APC) has made it clear that Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State won’t get an automatic ticket for re-election, despite his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The party’s Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, emphasized that the APC is committed to internal democracy and due process, stating that all aspirants must participate in primaries to earn the party’s ticket.
This decision has sparked mixed reactions, with some seeing it as a blow to Fubara’s re-election bid. The APC in Rivers State is already dealing with internal conflicts, having two unofficial factions – one loyal to Fubara and the other to former Governor and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The party’s national leadership is trying to intervene, with National Secretary Ajibola Basiru urging unity and warning against actions that could destabilize the state. The situation is being closely watched, as it may impact the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.
