The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has extended heartfelt appreciation to security stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents of the State for their immense cooperation with the Police during the just-concluded November 8 governorship election in the state.
In a press statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Commissioner commended the collective role played by sister security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), youth groups, religious leaders, and market unions in maintaining peace and promoting communal harmony throughout the election period.
According to the statement, the peaceful conduct of the election across all 21 local government areas was a direct result of the strong synergy between the Police and other stakeholders who worked tirelessly to sustain the message of peace before, during, and after the polls. The Commissioner noted that this level of cooperation greatly enhanced operational coordination and contributed significantly to the success of the Command’s comprehensive election security plan.
CP Orutugu also praised officers and men of the Command for their professionalism, discipline, and resilience in ensuring that voters exercised their franchise in a safe and secure environment. He assured that the Command remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state while consolidating on the peace and order achieved during the polls.
The Commissioner urged residents to continue supporting the Police and other security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious persons or activities capable of disrupting public peace. He emphasized that sustaining this atmosphere of unity, tolerance, and mutual respect would further strengthen Anambra’s collective resolve against violence and division.
It would be recalled that, in the weeks leading to the election, CP Orutugu had embarked on a State-wide peace advocacy tour across communities in Anambra, where he engaged traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and market associations. The campaign focused on voter confidence, peaceful coexistence, and the importance of community partnership in achieving a violence-free election.
The Command, through the statement, expressed gratitude to Ndi Anambra for their exemplary conduct and assured that the Police will continue to build on the trust established during the electoral period to enhance security, peace, and development in the state.
