Residents of Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State has reportedly started going about their normal daily activities without fear or restriction, as the anti–sit-at-home directive of the Anambra State Government continued to gain full compliance across communities in the area.
According to a statement from the Transition Committee Chairman (Mayor) of Nnewi South Local Government Area, Hon. Van George Ezeogidi, who monitored the various markets and other public places on Monday, November 10, the development shows the growing public confidence in the sustained efforts of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, to restore peace and stability throughout the state.
The Mayor noted that business activities, transportation, and market operations recorded impressive turnout, as residents freely moved about their lawful duties without intimidation or security concerns. He described the day as another clear evidence that Nnewi South has fully embraced the Governor’s call to reclaim the region from fear and unlawful restrictions imposed by non-state actors.
Security operatives, including men of the Nigeria Police Force, the Anambra Vigilante Group, and joint taskforce teams, were strategically deployed to major flashpoints and entry points across the local government to reassure citizens of their safety. The presence of patrol teams and the Mayor at the various places visited, particularly at bustling Eke Amichi, Chisco Park Amichi, Orie Utuh, Nkwọ Ezinifite, Afor Unubi, Orie Azigbo, Orie Ekwulumili, Afor Ukpor, Osumenyi Centre, Eke Osumenyi, and the bustling Orienwankwọ Ebenator and Akwaihedi markets, further boosted public morale.
Hon. Ezeogidi, in an exclusive interview with this reporter, commended the residents for their cooperation, describing their resilience as a strong statement of collective determination to support the state government’s vision of a peaceful, livable and prosperous, homeland. He assured that the local government would continue to partner with security agencies to sustain the gains of peace and normalcy already achieved.
He further emphasized that the era of fear and unlawful sit-at-home imposition was over in Nnewi South, urging residents to remain law-abiding and continue reporting suspicious movements or persons to relevant authorities for prompt intervention.
The Mayor also lauded Governor Soludo for his proactive and people-centered leadership, which has strengthened grassroots security architecture and empowered local governments to take ownership of their security frameworks. He pledged that Nnewi South would remain a model of compliance, community participation, and collective responsibility in advancing the Governor’s “Liveable and Prosperous Homeland” agenda in the state.
