Gov Charles Soludo of Anambra state has tasked the Paydirect Contractors to embark on full scale waste management towards converting waste to wealth.
To this end the Ministry of Environment in conjunction with the Anambra State Waste Management Authority ( ASWAMA) is to provide necessary assistance to aide effective disposal and and management.
According to the Commissioner for Environment Engr Felix Odumegwu who spoke on behalf of Soludo while receiving the newly elected Chairman and executive members of the Anambra Waste Disposal Paydirect Contractors in his office, the state government would put in place the basic infrastructure for them to function optimally.
“You all are veterans in this business of waste disposal and your contributions to achieving a clean and healthy Anambra state has never been in doubt”
“But there is the need to for us to transcend from just waste disposal to full waste management and the Anambra state government would give you all the support in that regard” he said.
At the Anambra State Waste Management Authority ASWAMA the Managing Director of the Agency Chief Ifeanyi Ozoemena described the introduction of Paydirect Contractors as a novelty that has saved government huge sums of money as government no longer spend money for the payment of waste disposal.
“I congratulate the new executive of this body and also commend you for this smooth transition and it is the desire of the state government to continue to partner with you all and the new executive”
Ozoemena observed that the opposition lost their deposit as they have never talked about waste management adding that it is an indication that both the Ministry of Environment and ASWAMA have been alive to their responsibilities.
“Since you people came into the business of waste disposal and management, a lot of transformations are being witnessed and I wish you to go beyond that and you all have the support of government in the area of providing infrastructure and other eneblers to achieving a clean and healthy Anambra state” he noted.
Speaking earlier the newly elected Chairman of the body Chief Uchenna Auswell Okpala Ezissi appealed to the state government to extend further hand of assistance to the contractors adding that as Gov Charles Soludo enters his second term in office, the contractors will up their game towards converting waste to wealth.
“We thank you for working harmoniously with the past executive a d in that spirit, we extend our hands of fellowship to government and appeal that government should also give us the necessary template and infrastructure to take Anambra state to it’s destination point which is clean and healthy environment ” he said.
