Residents of Plateau State are witnessing a dynamic shift in transportation as Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s PDP led administration presses forward with ambitious infrastructural reforms, aimed at relieving economic burdens and modernizing mobility across the state.

Following the federal government’s removal of fuel subsidy a move that drastically inflated transport costs nationwide Governor Mutfwang wasted no time in unveiling strategic interventions to cushion the effect on Plateau citizens. Among the bold initiatives was the launch of the Metro Bus Service, offering fares as low as ₦200. This affordable transit option quickly gained traction, especially among low-income earners, students, and traders.

With demand soaring, the governor expanded the bus fleet and extended routes across the state. The rejuvenated Plateau Express Service has further boosted interconnectivity, linking local government areas and even reaching neighboring states. Officials estimate that riders are saving as much as ₦40,000 monthly due to the subsidized fares.

The most groundbreaking update came last week with the launch of the Jos-Bukuru rail shuttle. Priced at ₦200 per trip, the rail line is hailed as a cost-effective, safe, and timely alternative to road transportation. Early reports show enthusiastic public reception, with stations filled daily and commuters praising the reliability and comfort of the journey.

Beyond personal savings, the rail initiative is reducing road congestion and lowering carbon emissions. This green pivot aligns Plateau with global sustainability efforts, enhancing its image as a forward-thinking region.

As Plateau remains Nigeria’s “Home of Peace and Tourism,” the rail shuttle now doubles as a scenic gateway for visitors. Analysts see potential for extended routes connecting iconic tourist destinations, which could invigorate local economies.

“I used to spend ₦1,000 daily on transport. Now with the bus and train options, I’m saving more and getting to work on time,” said Rachael Moses, a civil servant in Jos. Traders at the Bukuru market echoed the sentiment, describing the governor’s interventions as “timely and transformative.”

With the success of these transport systems, stakeholders are optimistic about further expansion into rural communities and other urban corridors. The administration has hinted at additional partnerships and infrastructure upgrades to sustain momentum.

Governor Mutfwang’s hands-on approach and clear transportation blueprint have drawn wide acclaim. His policies are not just moving commuters they’re moving the state towards economic resilience and integrated development.

If the rhythm of governance is progress, Plateau is dancing to a new tune under PDP led Administration.
