In what could be described as a satirical twist to one of Nigeria’s most infamous corruption scandals, a popular Anambra-based comedian and public service announcer, MC Aiza Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Awka, claims to have finally captured the “strange snake” that allegedly swallowed ₦36 million from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) office in Makurdi, Benue State.

In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Aiza is seen showcasing a big python he caught, humorously asserting that this was the same serpent responsible for the mysterious disappearance of funds from the JAMB office. He quipped that he had been on a relentless hunt for the snake since the incident came to light and had finally succeeded in apprehending it.

“This is the snake that swallowed the money,” Aiza jested in the video, alluding to the gravity of the corruption case that once gripped national attention.

He further mocked the situation by blaming the python for being responsible for the prevailing hunger in the country by swallowing Nigerians’ money.

Aiza was also seen kicking the python, further vowing that it must suffer for everything it did, since it had mind to swallow such a huge sum of money.

This reporter, Izunna Okafor, recalls that the backdrop to Aiza’s satire dates back to February 2018, when Philomena Chieshe, a sales clerk at the JAMB office in Makurdi, claimed that a “mystery snake” had spiritually consumed ₦36 million from the office’s vault.

This bizarre explanation emerged during an audit of JAMB’s finances, leading to an outrage and public ridicule.

Chieshe was, however, eventually suspended and (along with other officials) arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges bordering on fraud and misappropriation of funds, after she was summoned to explain how the strange snake “spiritually” swallowed the said huge amount of money made from the sale of JAMB scratch cards.
