In a move that is already generating buzz across the nationโs political landscape, former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, is currently holding a closed-door meeting with top officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Katsina State.
The high-profile meeting, which began earlier today at a private venue in the state capital, is believed to be centered around potential political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Although details of the discussions remain closely guarded, sources familiar with the matter say the talks may involve plans for a strategic coalition aimed at challenging the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North-West and beyond.
El-Rufai, a key political figure and former member of the APC, has in recent months distanced himself from the ruling party amid speculations about his next political move. His presence in Katsina alongside influential figures from both PDP and SDP has fueled speculation of an emerging alliance.
A senior PDP official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the meeting and described it as โa step toward building bridges for national unity and political progress.โ Similarly, an SDP representative said the dialogue reflects โa shared vision for a more inclusive and responsive government.โ
Political observers say El-Rufaiโs engagement with opposition leaders could mark a turning point in the build-up to 2027, especially if a formidable alliance is forged from these early conversations.
As of press time, no official statement had been released from any of the parties involved. However, more details are expected to emerge following the conclusion of the meeting.
