The plea came Three years after Governor Uzodinma promised 500 Youths abroad job opportunities
The Imo Deputy Governor, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru has urged medical students of the Imo State University to make efforts to pay back to the society upon graduation and shun seeking for greener pastures abroad.
She stressed that the state and the country hold enough for them.
The Deputy Governor gave the charge on Thursday at the Government House, Owerri, when the executive members of Nigerian Medical Students Association (NIMSA), Imo State University chapter paid her a courtesy visit.
The Deputy Governor encouraged them to be studious, remain focused, shun cultism and drug abuse to be able to realize their immediate and future goals.
Hear her; “Our Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has provided you with a conducive learning environment and necessary medical facilities to qualify as medical doctors.
“Your predecessors spent more than 10 years in the medical school before graduation but today, you will be graduating at the appropriate year of your graduation because the Governor put every machinery in place to get full accreditation for all your courses.
“The oxygen plant, cardiovascular and infectious disease centre are all provided to make your studies easy.
“As youths and would-be medical doctors, the opportunities in the Sports Ministry, Youth Development and Talent Hunt, Digital Economy and E-Governance and the Ministry of Health – Secondary and Tertiary Healthcare Management are for you to explore.
“So, do not plan to abandon the state for a future abroad while opportunities abound for you here to contribute your own quota to the state and country.
“You need to say thank you to the Governor and state for the efforts in your studies.
“Give back to the society in form of free medical outreaches, consulting in private and state owned hospitals and embarking on public enlightenment campaigns on health education”.
The leader of the group and Special Assistant to the Imo Commissioner on Youth Development and Talent Hunt, Dr. Franklin Olumba thanked Governor Hope Uzodimma for his care and provisions for Imo youths.
He also thanked the Deputy Governor for granting them audience and being humble and dedicated in the service of the state.
The President, Nigerian Medical Students Association, Chris Prosper also appreciated the Governor for the establishment of the oxygen plant, cardiovascular and infectious disease centre in the Teaching Hospital without forgetting the good access road to the institution.
