Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria (1999–2007) and Presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dismissed recent reports claiming his resignation from the party as “malicious lies” and a deliberate “political hatchet job.”
In a statement released through his media adviser, Paul O. Ibe, Atiku Abubakar categorically rejected the rumors circulating on the social media platform “Adamawa Happenings,” which falsely suggested his departure from the PDP. He emphasized that the reports were part of a baseless smear campaign orchestrated by political operatives with intentions to spread confusion and mislead the Nigerian public.
“The source of this baseless rumour is a Facebook page peddling falsehoods, evidently orchestrated by desperate political operatives with nothing but mischief and confusion on their agenda,” said the statement.
Atiku Abubakar, widely regarded as a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and a leading voice for the PDP, reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of the party and to the democratic aspirations of the Nigerian people. The statement urged supporters of the former Vice President and all Nigerians to disregard the malicious rumors, which it described as a “vile, vexatious ploy.”
“His Excellency Atiku Abubakar remains a steadfast, bonafide, and loyal member of the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement concluded.
The PDP and Atiku Abubakar’s loyalists have faced several similar rumors in the past, with critics often attempting to destabilize the party’s unity ahead of key elections. Despite these efforts, Atiku Abubakar’s influence and leadership within the PDP remain strong.
This clarification comes after growing concerns from members of the press and the general public, who sought clarity on the rumor that had rapidly spread across social media platforms.
Atiku Abubakar, who served as Vice President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007, remains a prominent political figure in the country and continues to play an influential role in the PDP.
