The PDP Northern Minority Consultative Forum has strongly criticized former governor and prominent politician, Ibrahim Shekarau, following his remarks disparaging the efforts of a political coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. The Forum, a key body within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused Shekarau of misjudging the coalition’s strength and strategy.

In a scathing statement, the Forum dismissed Shekarau’s comments as uninformed, asserting that the leaders of the coalition are seasoned political figures who are well aware of the challenges they face in the upcoming battle for the presidency. According to the Forum, the coalition comprises political heavyweights with years of experience in navigating Nigeria’s complex political terrain, making them well-prepared for the political “tornado” that is expected in 2027.

“Shekarau should understand that these leaders have a deep understanding of the political dynamics in Nigeria,” the Forum stated. “They know precisely who they are going to wrestle with and are fully committed to unseating the APC and President Tinubu in the coming elections.”

The Forum further emphasized that the coalition’s united front reflects the desires of many Nigerians who are disillusioned with the current administration and seek a change in leadership. It called on Shekarau to reconsider his stance and join forces with the coalition in the spirit of democratic progress, rather than hindering efforts for a transition of power.

While Shekarau’s remarks have stirred significant debate, the PDP Northern Minority Consultative Forum insists that the coalition’s resolve is unshaken and that their focus remains on delivering a viable alternative to the APC in the 2027 election cycle. They concluded by stating that the political landscape in Nigeria is ripe for transformation, and the coalition will not be deterred by the criticisms of any individual.

As the countdown to the 2027 elections continues, political observers are closely watching the evolving dynamics within opposition parties and coalitions, particularly in the face of criticism from figures such as Shekarau. It remains to be seen how these internal conflicts will shape the political narrative leading up to the next presidential race.
