Panic In Anambra Over Demolition Of Illegal Structures Along Awka- Onitsha Express Way

There is growing panic in Anambra state following the preparations for the mass demolition of shanties and illegal structures along Awka- Onitsha express way.

Consequent upon this plan traders and businessmen that have shops along the express way have commenced the removal of their wares and shops along the express in order to avert being taken by surprise.

At the Amansea – Agu – Awka axis owners of those illegal structures are gradually dismounting their shops while some other owners told this reporter that it is a common thing adding that government has never made bold their threats before.

According to the release by the Managing Director of Ocha Brigade Come Celestine Anere the affected traders are advised to remove those illegal structures and their goods before the commencement of the demolition.

“It is the intention of the State Government to bring to public knowledge it’s decision to expunge and rid the entire stretch of road from Amansea axis of the Federal highway all through down to Bridge head, Onitsha metropolis, of shanties and attachments either side of the Enugu/Onitsha road”

“Traders on either side of the long stretch are advised to start the dismantling and evacuation of all shanties and structures on the said road”

“The State Government will frown and subsequently wield the big stick against any defaulter of this directive”

“”Enforcement to clear up the highway will resume two (2) weeks from the date of the first announcement (i.e) 18th October, 2024. All the motor parks sited on either side of the Federal highway must be well gated to make way for a peaceful and a lot safer” environment” he said.
