One Storey Building Collapses In Anambra As Heavy Storm Submerges 6 vehicles In Awka Capital City

A one Storey Building collapsed yesterday evening being Monday when heavy storm raked havoc in Awka Capital City in Anambra state.

Similarly six vehicles were submerged by flood caused by the heavy storm which found three of the vehicles trapped inside the water channels due to the rain.

Though no life was lost in the building collapse as the one storey building is still under construction and no one was at the site of the building during the rain.

The rain which lasted up to 3 am Tuesday morning also sunmered buildings around the Iyi – Agu flood ways destroying properties and house hold materials rendering the occupants homeless.

Among the vehicles submerged include two SUV vehicles, three Toyota salon cars and a commuter bus which were being recorded by operatives of the towing vans .

The collapses one storey building was said to have been caused by the intensity of the storm which drenched the skeletal blocks and pillars constructed at the site.

Efforts to speak with the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority ACTDA proved abortive as it was gathered that the relevant authorities in charge of building control were away on an official assignment.
