From Msurshima Andrew, Makurdi
The Benue State Universal Education Board, (SUBEB), said the board has remained very united, more that ever, in their efforts to reposition primary education in the state and lift it from total collapse.
The Board member representing Zone B at the Board, Prince Andy Uwouku, stated this in Makurdi while speaking to newsmen in Makurdi.
According to him, the Executive Chairman, Dr Grace Adagba, since her coming on the Board December 15, 2023, have been working in synergy with the team to ensure that the board is lifted to achieve set goals.
Uwuoku, said, Dr Adagba, in collaboration with the board members, has initiated measures to ensure that teachers at the primary school level are motivated for improved service delivery.
“So the alleged report of high handedness of the Executive Chairman on the board members is strange.
“Since the coming of the Board on December 15, 2023, we have been working together as a team and the Chairman has not been working alone. She involves us in the running of the board. Since we came on board we have held about four board meetings called by the Chairman to intimate members of what is happening. Most of what is happening is approved by the board.”
Uwouku who described the board leadership as a team player said in collaboration with the Executive Chairman, “We have commenced the automation of the payroll of teachers as well as the complete renovation of the headquarters and provision of facilities all with the approval of the board.”
The Board Secretary, Dr. Joseph Jande, who also reiterated the synergy within the board said the board is working together in such a manner that at the time the success of the place will be listed, it is not only the Chairman that will take the glory because they are all working as a team.
“If she fails it is all of us that have failed and we will not want to be part of any system that has failed. That is why we are all collaborating to make sure that this organisation moves forward from where it was. We are making efforts both in administration and in structures to make sure that the board is accorded general face-lift.
“We are doing our best to make sure that that the problems we met on ground are tackled. We want to ensure that members of staff are diligent in their work and the basic education system in Benue state is properly positioned.
Also speaking, a board member representing Zone A in the Board, Mr. Paul Ebe, explained that with the commencement of the automation of teachers’ salaries, the issues facing teachers in the past including the deduction of their salaries without cogent reasons will be a thing of the past.
