Emmanuel College Owerri, Imo State students have been captured in a viral photo circulated on internet writing examinations on the floor.
Residents of the state have condemned the dilapidated condition of the institution which is said to have made billionaires, top Political figures and captains of Industries.
Emmanuel College Owerri was established in March 7th, 1947, which is the first secondary school in Owerri under the name of Emmanuel College came into being as a Co-educational Institution, using the bungalow of a Prominent son of Owerri Town, Nwaozuzu Ekeocha of blessed memory, at the edge of Ekukwu Owerri Market along the present Ekeonunwa Street, Owerri.
A trader who identified himself simply as Chima Henry, revealed to our correspondent that criminals have taken over the school environment to carryout illegal activities in the night.
Henry said; “Government should look into the school, some education equipments in the school have stolen and vandalized by criminals who use the school premises for one thing or the other.”
A civil defense personnel who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity during his visit to the school, stated that most schools in imo are dilapidated as a result of inability of the state government to pay salaries to securities guards.
He further revealed to 247ureports.com that the secretary of Secondary Education Board in Imo was recently sacked by Imo State Government for unidentified offense, facilitated by some Cabals in Uzodinma’s administration.
One of the teachers who did not want his name on print confirmed to our correspondent that the picture circulated on the internet represents the true image of the Emmanuel college, and other unity schools in Imo.
The teacher who pleaded anonymity revealed further that many school properties have been stolen and vandalized by unknown hoodlums.
When contacted the secretary of Imo Universal Basic Education Board, Bright Nwachukwu declined speaking with our correspondent.
The State Commissioner for Education, professor Cliff Nwadike was contacted severally by our correspondent on phone calls but he could not pick the call as at the time of filing this report.
A source blamed Rochas Okorocha led administration who he accused of procuring non quality chairs and tables for students in the state during his eight years administration.
He urged Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma to look into education sector of the state.
