The Alh Lamidi Apapa seeming festering Labour Party (LP) leadership crisis may have gone a notch higher with its factional Anambra chapter’s weekend meeting in Awka.
The Convener and Acting State chairman, Hon Peter Okoye in his remarks told the members who were clearly mainly of original foundation members of the Young Progressives Party(YPP) in the state, that they were not against HE Peter Obi who was the LP presidential candidate in the February 25,2023 general election.
But that according to the factional leader of the group Alh Apapa, was fighting to restore sanity, rule of law and party supremacy in LP.
That they have been in the party for nearly two decades and hence ‘can no longer sit bye and watch the immediate former National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure and others destroy the party’, he noted.
Okoye reiterated the accusations against the ex- top party officials the Treasurer, Secretary and the National Organizing Secretary of collecting huge sums of money running into hundreds of millions to subvert the governorship ticket of the party in Ebonyi State.
The meeting Convener added that it was similar in other positions in most places in other states.
So, it was to salvage the image of the party that the recent meeting in Bauchi was organized where Abure and some officials were removed.
Consequently, he urged the members to “go now into the 21 Local Government Areas of the State and 326 Wards to mobilize members and support, assuring them that we mean well…”
During interview with journalists shortly after the meeting, Okoye revealed that the leadership would soon embark on Ward tours and that they were committed to the actualization and recovery of Obi’s mandate at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal soon.
He admitted being aware of a warning by the LP’s “former state Chairman”, Hon Ugochukwu Emeh to members to stay away from the Apapa group. He was happy to have recorded a sizable turnout.
Emeh in a reaction accused “Apapa and his political minions of working hands-in-gloves with the All Progressives Congress to cause confusion and destabilize LP.
“But they have failed and will continue to fail shamefully! We cannot join issues with some political turncoat rabble rousers, jobbers who are non members of Labour Party.
He further described them as “pollutants”.
