Reactions have trailed alleged shut down of over 700 hundred businesses belonging to indigenes of the state, for indulging in what could be better described as tax aversion.
One of the over 700 businesses reportedly closed down by the Governor was the popular ABC Transport plc, belonging to billionaire Chief Frank Nneji.
Recall that officials of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA), and her sister agencies, such as Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), and security agencies besieged the streets of Awka the capital city of the state this week on enforcement patrol, during which they also Destiny Pot eatery along UNIZIK Junction and other business premises were sealed.
It was gathered that the defaulters had earlier been served several notices to do the needful, which they ignored.
Reports also revealed that those defaulters were subsequently sued and summoned to court; but they also failed to show up or make any attempt to approach the relevant agency to make their payment.
A source close to the government said the Revenue Court consequently issued a sealing order against them, which authorised the enforcement team to seal off the defaulting businesses in different parts of the state.
However, the sealing of these businesses and entities by the government has continued to generate a chain of actions and reactions from ndị Anambra.
Many of them who commented on the incident laud Governor Soludo, describing tax as very essential for a consummate development in every society; while many others condemn the action of the Governor, describing it as an attempt to reap where he did not sow.
