The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finally taken into custody former Governor of Abia state, Sen. Theodore Orji and his son, Chinedu over alleged mysterious N48billion security votes.
The father and son reigned Abia with iron fist are required to account for the N2billion Ecological Fund and conversion of Sure-P funds.
The ex-Governor who left Abia state most under-developed in his eight year reign was intercepted at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja before boarding a flight while his son reported to the EFCC headquarters.
According to a source, the ex-Governor, who has been on the Commission’s watch list, was intercepted at the Nnamdi International Airport, Abuja at about 1000 hours on Thursday and brought to the headquarters of the EFCC at Jabi, Abuja for the continuation of his interrogation.
The source said: “He is being quizzed alongside his son, Chinedu, the current Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, who turned himself in this afternoon upon learning of the arrest of his father.
“Sen. Orji and his sons, Chinedu and Ogbonna, are under investigation by the EFCC for offences bordering on misappropriation of public funds and money laundering.
“The ex-Governor is alleged to have collected N500million monthly as security vote for eight years as governor of Abia state between 2007 and 2015.
“Other issues relate to the alleged mismanagement of N2billion Ecological Fund and conversion of Sure-P funds.”
The Head of Media and Publicity of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest of the former Governor.
Recall that his son was the defacto Governor under his administration with so much recklessness in the way and manner instill so much fear to anyone with contrary opinion to the father’s.
While Abians have cried for the Orjis to be brought to Justice, one Fidelix Ananabawho resides in Aba insists that the arrest is rather coming late.
“The people of Abia state have waited for T.A Orji and his son to face justice. It is rather coming late. We have it will not be one of those endless trial.
“We hope that the right thing is done through diligent investigation. Look at Aba and other local governments, we are the most under-developed in Nigeria because of bad leadership from people like Theodore”, he lamented.
