Mr Chijioke Ofomba, a farmer was barely one week to the burial of his late father, Chief Iwuno Ofomba, set ablaze
by assailants in a disputed farm land at Nando community, Anambra East local
Government Area, Anambra state.
His assailants were said to have stormed on him at the farm on July 30, beat him to pulp and poured petrol on him which gave him serious burn all over his body and left him to his faith.
By divine intervention he was rescued by farmer passers-by who on recognising him at the scene, informed his family and friends.
They took him to a nearby hospital where he was placed on danger list.
Reacting to the attack, elder brother to the victim, Igwe Onyeachonam
Ofomba, said that, “Chijioke was attacked and set ablaze by those we have land dispute with just one week to the burial of our beloved father, late Chief Iwuno Ofomba Nwaedozie, aged 99 years.”
Asked if the matter has been lodged with the police he said that, “we have reported the matter to the Otuocha police station and they have visited the victim in the hospital but they are yet to make arrest.
“Their intension by setting him ablaze was to kill him but God saved
him. As we are now burying our father, the victim is in the hospital still unconscious.
“We expect the police to commence investigation immediately and arrest
the culprits, we know them, they are those in land dispute with us” he
said.
