Anambra state government on Thursday donated jerseys and other kits to 12 football teams from primary and secondary schools which qualified for the semi finals of U-13 and U-17 Academicals Cup.

Tony Oli, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission said the state government had expanded the scope by giving female footballers an opportunity to grow their skills.
Oli said the move yielded dividends when the Anambra U-15 football qualified from the South East for the National Sports Festival in Benin (Edo 2020) but did not make the trip because of Covid 19 restrictions.
He said the developmental programme had earned youths from the state scholarship worth millions as well as national call-ups and enjoined the participants to be studious in their studies while pursuing a career in football.
Oli said the teams that will make it to the grand finale will be kitted in penalised branded jerseys and urged the managers of the qualifiers to submit names of 20 players of their teams
Four male teams qualified from the primary school (U-13) category while eight teams comprising four male and four female teams were drawn in the secondary school (U-17) categories.
Complete set of football kits including training footballs were also distributed to all the U-17 teams to aid their preparations.
At the draws which were held at the SSG Conference Hall, Government House in Awka, Washington Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha male will fight for a place in the final against Aguata High School, Aguata.
In the second game of the day, Bubendorf Memorial Grammar School, Adazi will trade tackles with Fr Joseph Secondary School, Aguleri to compete for the second finalists.
In the females category, Community Secondary School, Isuofia will play against Christ Redeemer College, Amesi while Community Secondary School Asia while slug it out with Washington Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha.
In the primary schools cadre, Umuogali Primary School Oba will play against Eri Primary School, Aguleri while Esiagulu Primary School Ekwulobia will play against Community Primary School Orsumenyi.
The primary schools matches will be held on Aug 11 while secondary schools girls and hold on Aug. 12 while secondary schools boys will hold on Aug. 13.
All matches will be played at Tansi International College football pitch, Okpuno in Awka South Local Government Area.
