Press Release

Against the backdrop of yesterday’s clash between security operatives in Enugu and members of the  Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a frontline socio-political pressure group known as Enugu Youth Coalition has called on all parties to cease further hostilities while commending Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s peace initiatives to restore normalcy.

In a statement signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Dr. Edwin Obune, the group said it was unfortunate that such incidence happened yesterday,  but called on members of the public to avoid making public statements capable of escalating the security situation in the state.

The group further commended Governor Ugwuanyi for his prompt response to the situation saying, it’s a show of leadership on the part of the state’s helmsman.

The group also called on the media to exercise caution in the reportage of the situation to avoid playing in to the hands of those who wants to use the incidence to destroy the peaceful nature of the state.

Despite the incidence, Enugu State generally remains peaceful and will continue to be peaceful because it is a state in the hands of God!

Signed:

Dr. Edwin Obune,

National Coordinator,

Enugu Youth Coalition
