Vigilant youths in Tse-Kucha, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State yesterday, intercepted a group of 7 destitute youths also known as Almajiris and handed them over to the State Action Committee on COVID-19.
The Almajiris who revealed that they were coming from Kano State stowed away on a truck which drove to the Dangote Cement Fuactory at Tse-Kucha obviously for purpose of conveying goods.
It was while the truck had parked at the entrance to the factory and the Almajiris started disembarking from its tarpaulin covered trailer that youths in the area quickly mobilised and rounded them up.
The youths then put a call across to the State Action Committee on COVID-19 on one of the Emergency Response lines alerting them of the situation.
A Rapid Response Team of the Committee was swiftly dispatched under the direct supervision of Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu, who directed that the Almajiris be brought to Makurdi for Isolation and their samples taken for test.
Engr. Abounu who is the Chairman of the State COVID-19 Committee called on people in the state to continue to maintain due vigilance and report strangers or persons who may have come into their communities from outside the state to the Committee through the Emergency Response telephone (toll free) lines.
