Court remands 2 employees over stealing of N536,000

A Grade 1 Area Court in Mpape, Abuja, on Monday ordered the remand of two men, Obiaso Rhema and Nmaite Oluchukwu for allegedly conspiring to steal N536,000 from their employer.

The Presiding judge, Salihu Ibrahim, order that the defendants be remanded in a Correctional facility, after they both pleaded guilty to two counts charges of criminal conspiracy and theft.

Ibrahim adjourned the case till Jan. 29 for further hearing.

The Police charged the defendants,Rhema, 19 and Oluchukwu, 20 both of Berger Tank, Mpape, for criminal conspiracy and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Edwin Ochayi, had told the court that the accused with others now at large conspired and stole N536,000 from their employer’s shop being proceed of sales and absconded to Anambra and Delta states.

Ochayi said during police investigation the defendants were arrested and they confessed to committing the crime.

He said that the case was reported by one Felix Chukwujekun of Julius Berger Quarry, Mpape, Abuja sometimes in December 2019.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened provisions of Sections 97 and 288 of Penal Code.
